Shack Preview: Starcraft: Ghost

Blizzard's Starcraft: Ghost (PS2, Xbox) is not a title that has ever gotten me particularly excited. I was a huge Starcraft fan, but early Ghost screenshots were for some reason uninspiring, and none of Blizzard's official word on the game made me think it would turn out at the level we've come to expect from the company. On top of that, the game's development was known to be on somewhat rocky ground, and it switched studios midway through production. Imagine my surprise when, at BlizzCon, I saw that the game might actually turn out to be quite good. The multiplayer in particular has a lot going for it, and what I saw of the single-player was encouraging as well.
Blizzard claims to have tried as much as possible to make the game feel true to its Starcraft roots, and in a node-based game like Invasion, that larger scale war-like feeling did come through. Both sides by necessity had to attack in coordinated groups, since nodes must be captured sequentially, and the feeling of participating in a wave of swarming Zerglings overcoming a Terran waypoint is probably exactly what Blizzard and Swingin' Ape were going for.

  • I don't see why you guys complain so muc? Even if it does have a few glitches it's not THAT big of a deal. It may be Blizzard we are talking about, and we may have really high expectations from them. But I don't think that they have ever put a First-Person Shooter into production so you have to cut them some slack.

I for one am anticipating the release of this game ALOT. I am hoping that it will be what it is cracked up to be, because if not then there will be alot of disappointment throughout StarCraft fans everywhere. I also think that the making of StarCraft 2 would be a great idea if Blizzard were to work on it's development soon after the release of StarCraft: Ghost.

Goodluck Blizzard on this title, I hope your first First-Person Shooter is amazing.
