Shack GOTY 2002 Winners

Well the polls are closed and it's time to announce the winners for the Game of the Year 2002. Along with the reader's choice awards we've included our own personal picks for the particular platforms. Obviously Jason is just a pampered little bitch because he has all 3 consoles! Here you go, the winners are...

- PC Gaming
- Sony Playstation 2
- Nintendo Gamecube & GBA
- Microsoft Xbox

There werent really too many surprises in there, but there were certainly a number of tough choices. Most of the choices were within 25-50% of each other, with the exception of Warcraft 3 which won by a huge landslide. I'll probably slip in there and put the percentages on those pages later on, but I just wanted to get those darn results posted already!

Hmm, I know OF these games, but I haven't played hardly any of them. Guess college and finals kinda does that to ya, but at least I'll be done soon.

Only games I've played so far this year is Homeworld (yeah, you read that right), UT2k3 for two weeks, Morrowind for about the same period, and Dungeon Siege for another two weeks. I haven't been playing that many games in the last few months, but I'm looking forward to MOO III and Doom III.

My brother owns a PS2, but I haven't really touched that since Gran Turismo 3 and MGS2 last Xmas. I haven't seen anything on the GameCube or the XBox that really caught my attention. Heck I don't even know what they have out for either system right now. Guess I've practically fallen out of the gaming loop...

I'm pretty surprised at some of the results, moreso over the catergorization than anything.

BF1942, while a great game, shouldn't really be put in the same class as Medal Of Honor. I believe multiplayer action / single player action should have been in separate categories. But then you'd have to get specific, and place UT2003 with BF1942.. and again.. thats a team based game vs. a deathmatch game. I guess it's easier to put them all into one group.

The results that surprised me the most were the sports games. While skateboarding may be considered a sport by all, it isn't a traditional sports game in a sense.. more of a goal-oriented game than anything. The NBA/NFL/NHL games should have been separated as well. THPS games should be grouped with the BMX ones and the snowboarding genre.

I guess that's pretty much it, everything else deserved what it got. I found the editors choice's pretty much on par, save for Jason's selection of MechAssault. I believe that one who run's a game page should share somewhat similar views with its readers, but Splinter Cell isn't for everyone.

BF1942 = PC GOTY? Fuck yeah! I really had never been attracted to online multiplayer gaming before, always LAN style-- but this game, THIS GAME changed everything for me... I can't wait to see all the games that steal what they've done and do it better (TEAM.FORTRESS.2!!)

The GT Rally mod for F1 2002 should have been included in the PC section. Eye candy aside, imho it's a much better game than Rallisport Challenge or Hot Pursuit 2.

Everything I voted for won for the most part, except Doom2 for GBA. WTF... did people not play it or something? How can you enjoy Metroid Fusion more than that?! You can't tell me that arguably the weakest metroid game is more fun than an all time classic in game history! Duke Nukem Advance should have been up there, too, as that was a great game in it's own right.

I had a tough time voting for PC game...I think I ended up on GTA3. The only disapppointment I had was the racing genre...I thought NFS:HP2 was really bad. I would've liked to see Rallisport Challenge win that one.
