Resident Evil 4/5 is all about knowing your surroundings and using your environment to out smart your enemies and take a defensive or offensive stance given your strategy. Knowing when to hole up in a building and barricade windows, or take the high ground to get off shots, or jump down from a roof to evade a swarm, or to knock down ladders or shoot legs to throw enemies off high ground. That is why you cannot strafe while aiming, aiming and moving are separate because movement is strategic. If you could strafe then you could easily take out the slow moving enemies and strafe their attacks. The enemies may run at you quickly, but once they are 10 feet away they slow down and then attack. That is why enemies being able to actually break down walls, or take out entire buildings is so awesome in RE5, which has been shown in the demo, because it adds another layer of strategy that the AI can use against your use of the environment. Its what made RE4 so awesome. The developers said that the first Village encounter was made to be difficult to make the player learn initially how the gameplay works and that simply taking shots will not let you succeed. None of that was in Dead Space.
