Oh, and I know most people here won't play it, but Crysis Wars, the multiplayer component of the game, is so unbelievably fun. The closest analog is a Battlefield game, only the graphics are superb and you can super sprint or cloak or jump over the guy in the jeep who's trying to run you down and land behind him and shoot up the external gas can and explode him. And there's way more strategy to the game because you have to keep moving around the battlefield and capturing energy and spawn points while maintaining control of the Prototype Factory. The only bad thing about it, I mean the ONLY bad thing about it is that CoD4 and TF2 are both really good multiplayer games too. If this game had come out 6 months before either of those I have no doubt there'd be a lot more people playing it.
And I think they did make the engine just a bit more efficient. I have a quad core and an 8800GT, what I'd consider a Lower Upper Class gaming rig, and I'm running it at 1440x900 with everything at medium (no AA) in DX9 mode and it looks amazing and has an excellent, stable framerate. I ran it briefly at a lower res in DX10, and it looked amazinger, but I'd rather have the higher res an framerate. Besides, this game on medium quality still looks better than anything else on the market.
