I just had a revelation about how consoles will work in the future (5-10 years). The solution solves upgrades, piracy etc etc.
It is so good I hesitate to describe it before I get some patents and make BILLIONS!!!!!
Aa, shit. I never get to it anyways so here it is:

Lets take Microsoft for example:
1. Instead of releasing a new console they build huge datacenters with extreme hardware.
2. They sell a cheap and simple "box" that you connect to the TV and to the Internet.
3. The games are "run" on the datacenters and you recive the picture as a stream. (HD 1080p 50 FPS)
4. The datacenters are virtualized so if you play a simple game you dont need that much power and if you play a really advanced game you use more power on the datacenter.
Impossible to copy games - everything is ran on the datacenters. You just get the renderd stream.
No need to manufacture games - the games are on the datacenters.
No need for updates - as long as your box can handle the stream you wont need a new box.
Extreme multiplayer - all comunication is done within the datacenters.
Huge selection - All the games are right there. No need to download, just press play and you start to receive the stream.
As hardware get cheaper they can just expand the datacenters.
Efficiency - not all play at the same time and if you build the datacenter to handle the peaks you can sell the computing power during the off hours.
