Please god PLEASE do NOT take into consideration anything from jackass central (aka Tribalwar.com). As you can read the ass-hattery has already started:

they've latched on to the browser thing and are currently tearing it to shreds despite the team posting and trying to explain things. If you get them to accept that they'll simply jump onto something else.
There is nothing on the face of this earth that will please them, even coming from the original team who want to bring things back to the basics. They are the equivalent of anti-matter to anything fun.

We've seen this with TF2. There were too many mods out there that tried to be the original TF and didn't quite reach critical mass even if they tried to mimic the original in detail. But here's the funny thing: when the real sequel (TF2) was released, it changed a lot of stuff. Removed grenades, added teleporters, etc. It's very good on its own right, but very different. Sure enough, a lot of die-hard TF or TFC players will promptly reject it due to this. I've seen oldschool TF players dissing TF2 because it's "too similar to counter-strike".
I can't see why the same won't happen to any games that tries to be Tribes. Hardcore players won't like it because it'll never be that idealistic, impossible game they expect it to be. Other players will only care if it's fun and approachable.
A lot of things - like player expectations and skills - change over time. While the ethos of the QW/Tribes era can still be found, I doubt it is at all possible with a game that simply tries to mimic the specific details of each game. Working toward an empty shell, having checklist of similarities to fill, won't work. Going towards the soul of the game, of what made it fun, might.
Heritage in new FPS titles is a bomb waiting to explode.
