Wolfenstein 3D free browser version marks 20th anniversary

What did you get yer old pal B.J. Blazkowicz for his birthday? Come now, surely you didn't forget that it's the 20th anniversary of Wolfenstein 3D's launch this month? Luckily, id Software and Bethesda haven't, and have given us all a free browser-based version of its seminal shooter. John Carmack has also given a director's commentary, full of the usual fascinating Carmackchat.

Wolfenstein 3D iPhone Update Grants Spear of Destiny

id Software has updated the iPhone port of its vintage shooter Wolfenstein 3D, packing in the 21-level prequel Spear of Destiny and support for user-created maps.

Also arriving in the free update are map interface improvements and an id trivia section. Now dubbed Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum and weighing in at a 3G-unfriendly 21.5MB, the game costs $1.99 on iTunes. Thanks Schnapple for the tip.

Shack PSA: Wolfenstein 3D Hits Xbox 360 Today, PS3 Tomorrow

As promised last week, the grandpappy of the first-person shooter as we know it is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and arrives in the PlayStation Store tomorrow.

Wolfenstein 3D Hits PS3 and Xbox 360 Next Week

The downloadable Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network release of id's classic first-person shooter Wolfenstein 3D will arrive next week, Activision has just revealed.

Containing both the original Wolfenstein 3D and "Nocturnal Missions" expansion--making for a total of 60 levels across six episodes--the shooter will hit Xbox 360 on Wednesday June 3, followed by the PlayStation 3 release on Thursday June 4. Read more »

Wolfenstein 3D Coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

id Software's classic first-person shooter is headed to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, according to the ESRB game ratings list.

No further details are available but odds are it will be a downloadable release on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Store, timed to promote the upcoming Wolfenstein game developed by Raven Software--coming this summer to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Read more »

Wolfenstein 3D Arrives in iPhone App Store

id Software today released its classic first-person shooter Wolfenstein 3D on the iPhone and iPod Touch via the iTunes App Store. The 9.9MB download is priced at $4.99.

Packing the original six episodes, complete with the famed MechaHitler boss fight, the game offers two different control methods. One has players navigating and shooting with the touch screen, and the other sees players tilting the device for movement. Read more »
