The Witcher 3 delayed into February 2015

Good things come to those who wait, a trite saying goes, and my, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt certainly does look good. Which is why the open-world fantasy RPG is being delayed from its planned 2014 launch, until February 2015. Still, at least we can be fairly confident that at least one Witcher game will launch all shiny and lovely, rather than relying on post-release polish.

Most Anticipated 2014: Alice's Picks

Most Anticipated 2014: Alice's Picks

There's a lot to be excited for in the new year, like y'know--VIDEO GAMES. The Shacknews staff pick their most anticipated games of 2014. Next up is senior editor Alice O'Connor.

Alien: Isolation

The Creative Assembly | Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC

Alien: Isolation will never be as good as we're imagining it right now. If we close our eyes, we can picture ourselves trying not to breath too loudly as we skitter through the corridors of a dirty great spaceship, jumping at every hiss of steam, too terrified to turn around in case it is there. It won't be that good. However, it's certainly the most interesting Alien/Aliens game we've heard of in years.

The Witcher Adventure Game brings Geralt to tabletops

The Witcher is becoming a game! Wait, it's already a video game. However, it's also becoming a board game with The Witcher Adventure Game. CD Projekt Red has teamed up with Fantasy Flight Games to work on a board game adaptation of The Witcher universe.

The Adventure Game will have players controlling Geralt, Triss Merigold, Yarpen Zigrin, and Dandelion. Each character has unique skills and their own deck of Development Cards, and it'll be up to players to decide to fight, use charm, or attempt diplomacy to get through the game. You'll be able to play lone wolf, cooperate with others, or betray players with "false promises."

CD Projekt RED teases Witcher comic

CD Projekt RED, the creators of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, have created one of the most obvious teaser trailers we've seen yet. Without explicitly announcing a comic book adaptation of The Witcher series, the company has announced a collaboration with Dark Horse Comics meant for "fans of the fantasy genre."

The teaser adds: "There's a mystery near the edge of the Black Forest. We'd like to invite you to fear it with us."

The Witcher 3 cinematic trailer kills monsters

The Witcher 3 cinematic trailer kills monsters

Cinematic trailers rarely have much to do with the game they advertise because, well, story rarely has much to do with games. A new cinematic trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, however, seems a fair representation of the moral dilemmas and mass murders we expect from CD Projekt RED's RPG, just prettier and slicker than the game will be.

Witcher 3 aims to release free DLC on consoles

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt owes its legacy to a primarily PC focus, and CD Projekt Red plans to follow through with that tradition as much as possible on consoles. That means that, to whatever extent console manufacturers will let them, the studio plans to offer free downloadable content, but cautions that it doesn't know the console business models yet.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt preview: monster game

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt preview: monster game

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is meant to finish off the story of Geralt of Riva, and developer CD Projekt Red is hoping to end the series in a big way. To do that, the team is trading the petty politics the hero dealt with in the first two games for a more personal journey. In so doing, they are breathing fresh air into an already critically acclaimed series.

The story revolves around the Wild Hunt, a group of spectral warriors on a flying longship that have always been considered mere legend. But after a village is ransacked and slain by these creatures, Geralt must seek out a lone survivor to tell him more of the tragedy and where the slayers were headed. During the conversation, the witcher hints that his previous run-ins with the Hunt has left him with a score to settle.

The Witcher 3 first gameplay trailer hits as Xbox One confirmed

Is no surprise that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Xbox One too, given that developer CD Projekt RED was vague about platforms when announcing for PlayStation 4. What was both surprising and delightful, however, was that the confirmation during Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference also brought the open-world RPG's first gameplay trailer.

The Witcher 3 promises '36 world states' in trilogy finale

"There will be 36 different endings," Adam Badowski, managing director of CD Projekt RED, said about the upcoming Witcher 3. But perhaps that wasn't entirely accurate. Michal Platkow-Gileswki clarifies that the number refers to different "world states." The end result is three different playable "epilogues."

Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer, The Witcher 3 might

Given that in the future we'll all be jacking into cyberspace and diving darknets all the time, it seems only fitting that Cyberpunk 2077 should offer multiplayer. Developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed that its cyberpunk RPG will indeed have "multiplayer features," but is awfully tight-lipped about what form they'll take. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might have multiplayer too.

The Witcher 3 will feature more 'personal' story, twist ending

The Witcher 3 will feature more 'personal' story, twist ending

The Witcher 3 promises to end CD Projekt's RPG trilogy. Because this will be the last game starring Geralt, the story has been crafted to be much more personal than in The Witcher 2, lead quest designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz explained. "In the Witcher 2, we have dabbled a lot in the big politics... and some players, they liked that, but it was too much for them," he said. "Of course, we will keep those elements, but they won't be the main arc of the story. This time, the story will be more personal, it will involve what Geralt wants. It will revolve around Geralt and his close ones."
