Sony closing Wipeout dev SCE Studio Liverpool

Sony Computer Entertainment today confirmed plans to shut down Studio Liverpool, 19 years after acquiring it and almost 30 after the studio was founded as the hallowed Psygnosis. Studio Liverpool was most known for creating and developing racing series Wipeout, but it was also once a publisher too, bringing the world DMA Design's (now Rockstar) Lemmings games.

Wipeout 2048 dev working on free updates

Wipeout 2048 launched last week alongside the (second) launch of the PlayStation Vita. To fit in that prized window, though, some features were cut, and the team is now working to bring those into the game through updates, alongside its regular DLC plans.

"It's just one of those things - you've got a list of so many thing you've got to do before a certain time and there's a cut off point," said lead designer Karl Jones.

Wipeout 2048 review

Let's be honest, Wipeout 2048 likely isn't a game early PS Vita adopters are anxiously lining up for. Still, as someone who's played the series since doing so meant being tethered to a PlayStation, I was excited to see how the anti-gravity racer and Sony's new portable complemented each other. This umpteenth entry in the franchise doesn't do much to evolve the formula it was founded on but judging by the trigger-induced callous on my index finger the series still possesses the ability to satiate my need for speed.

Wipeout, Hustle Kings Vita-PS3 cross-play detailed

One of Vita's most compelling features is the ability to play content that's been purchased for your PS3. For example, the upcoming MotorStorm RC will not only feature cross-platform multiplayer, but a single PSN purchase will unlock both the Vita and PS3 versions of the game.

There are other games that will offer this unique value. Hustle Kings, for example, will be free to download on the Vita if you've already purchased the PS3 version (and vice versa).

Rumor: PlayStation Vita launch game prices

A purported leak from GameStop has given some prices for the PlayStation Vita launch line-up. For the most part, the numbers seem on-par with the games of its chief competition, the Nintendo 3DS. The one exception is Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which is nearly priced the same as a console release.

Even Wipeout 2048 had zombies

Even Wipeout 2048 had zombies

We just can't seem to outrun zombies. The undead have run amok in movies, television shows, and games. But who would've imagined they would end up infecting the futuristic Wipeout series?

No, Wipeout 2048 won't come with a Carmageddon-inspired zombie mode where you run over zombies. Instead, game director Stuart Tilley describes an axed game mode where people haven't been zombified--the cars have. "These are 1000mph steel and carbon fibre machines of menacing evil, and they want you dead," he described.
