The European-exclusive revised Wii is similar to the old model in most respects. In fact, it's even the same size. Although Nintendo announced it had been "reconfigured," its dimensions are staying at the (already fairly small) case size the Wii has always been. If, for some reason, you're having trouble fitting a Wii in your shelves, this isn't the solution.

[Update] Nintendo of America has told Shacknews it does not currently have any plans to bring the revised Wii model to market in North America:
Nintendo of America does not currently have any plans to release the Wii bundle that was announced by Nintendo of Europe on Aug. 17. Consumers in the United States can currently purchase a Wii console bundled with the Mario Kart Wii game and Wii Wheel accessory for a suggested retail price of $149.99. The Wii Party game is available separately for a suggested retail price of $39.99.The Wii hardware currently available at stores in North America is able to play Nintendo GameCube discs. We do not have any announcements to make about future hardware configurations.
[Original Story] Nintendo is introducing a redesigned Wii console this holiday season, with a few notable changes and a new bundle. Nintendo of Europe announced the streamlined system this morning, which is set to launch this October. The bundle includes Wii Party, the original Wii Sports, and a Wii Remote Plus with nunchuck.

Nintendo's fiscal year has gotten off to a poor start as the the friendly video games giant reports its sales were down 25% between April 1 and June 30 compared to the same period last year, contributing to a net loss of 25,216 million yen ($290 million US).
While sales of Wii hardware for the quarter rose by 27% to 3.04 million units, software sales fell by 10% to 28 million units. Still, Super Mario Galaxy 2 put in an impressive performance and sold 4.09 million copies. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort both shifted around 3 milion units, though they are of course often bundled. Read more »

Having updated its lifetime hardware sales figures, Nintendo today confirmed that the Wii has outsold the Nintendo Entertainment System--making Wii the "best selling Nintendo home videogame console of all time"--while the Nintendo DS has replaced the GameBoy as its best-selling hardware of all time.
"Needless to say, these are just two milestones of a larger journey in our efforts to reach the ultimate goal of bringing one home console for every household and one handheld for everyone," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explained in his presentation. Read more »

Nintendo has published updated lifetime sales for some of its biggest Wii sellers, revealing that Wii Sports sales will soon top 50 million.
The flagship Wii title, bundled in some territories and sold in others, now stands at 47.6 million units shipped worldwide.
