Wii price cut to $130 in new black bundle

Nintendo's Wii U launches in North America on November 18, but the original Wii will surely still be a hot seller this holiday season. To help shove it along, Nintendo today announced plans that it's cutting the Wii's price to only $129.99 later this month, in a bundle with a black console, one Wii Remote Plus with Nunchuck, and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Nintendo Reports Sales Down 25%, Net Loss; 3DS Release Date Announcement Announced

Nintendo's fiscal year has gotten off to a poor start as the the friendly video games giant reports its sales were down 25% between April 1 and June 30 compared to the same period last year, contributing to a net loss of 25,216 million yen ($290 million US).

While sales of Wii hardware for the quarter rose by 27% to 3.04 million units, software sales fell by 10% to 28 million units. Still, Super Mario Galaxy 2 put in an impressive performance and sold 4.09 million copies. New Standard Wii Package Includes MotionPlus, Wii Sports Resort, Available in Black

The Nintendo Wii will be available in black from May 9, Nintendo has announced, when it updates the $199 standard bundle to include Wii Sports Resort and the MotionPlus peripheral in addition to Wii Sports and a controller, as had been rumoured.

Nintendo Touts Holiday Sales Figures

Kicking off new year with self-congratulatory press release, Nintendo began today by listing off some of its accomplishments in 2009, such as its estimate that the Nintendo DS "set a new all-time calendar-year U.S. sales record for any console or hand-held."

The company further boasted that the Nintendo DS represents the "best selling videogame console" in European history with over 40 million sold across five years, with the Wii having sold just over 20 million in the territory across three years. Read more »

New Wii Sports Resort Bundle Packs Two MotionPlus

Nintendo has announced a new limited edition bundle of Wii Sports Resort, which will pack the game and two of the MotionPlus controller add-ons it requires for $59.99.

Released earlier this year, the regular $49.99 version of the mini-game compilation includes just one MotionPlus. The game requires each player to have the precision-enhancing peripheral, which sells individually for $19.99, plugged into their Wii Remote. Read more »

Wii Sports Resort Sales Surpass 500,000

Nintendo has announced that over 500,000 units of Wii Sports Resort have been sold between its July 26 debut and August 5, a period of just 11 days.

That equates to roughly 1.5 copies of the game sold per second, according to Nintendo, which has clearly done its Brain Age math tests. Read more »

Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort Dated

Nintendo has announced prices and release dates for its control-enhancing Wii MotionPlus accessory and the game Wii Sports Resort, which will take advantage of it.

The Wii MotionPlus, out June 8 costing $20 per accessory, attaches to a Wiimote to increases the sensitivity and accuracy of its motion sensors to an almost 1:1 scale.

Originally scheduled for a spring launch, Nintendo's sports sequel Wii Sports Resort will now hit North American retailers in July, according to Reuters.

Punch-Out!! Wii Due by July, Kirby Wii Still Alive

Tucked away within Nintendo's recent financial documents was a tentative release schedule for the next year, revealing that the forthcoming Punch-Out!! Wii will hit North America and Europe within the first half of 2009.

Wii MotionPlus, Wii Sports Resort Hands-on: Waggling Done Right?

A few months before the Wii's original launch, the limitations of the system and its motion-centric controls finally dawned on me: tethered to the controller's infrared sensor, there were distinct limits to how "aware" the system could be as to the Wii Remote's orientation. My dreams of one-to-one lightsaber combat were dashed.

When Nintendo revealed its plans for the Wii MotionPlus accessory yesterday morning— almost a full day before its E3 press conference proper—I was a little confused. If this was truly the improvement that it was billed to be, wouldn't it be better suited as the show-stopping announcement to close out the company's list of announcements? Read more »
