Wii Sports Club free trial weekend begins next week

Nintendo continues experimenting with new business models with Wii Sports Club. The company is trying out the free weekend model, letting all Wii U owners download and play the game for free from March 21 to March 23. The promotion includes access to all three sports: Golf, Bowling, and Tennis. It's available to everyone, including gamers that have already used their free 24 hour trial.

Wii Sports Club debuted with tennis and bowling, but if you want a little more up your sleeve to help settle family arguments over Christmas, Nintendo has you covered. Golf has rolled out onto Wii U today, with the same price model of $1.99 to play all three sports for one day or $9.99 to keep Golf forever.

PSA: Wii Sports Club out today on Wii U

The most iconic game of the Wii generation is finally available on Wii U... sort of. The first two games of Wii Sports Club are now available for download on the eShop.

Tennis and bowling make their debut today, with three more games coming in the following months. The Wii U version will feature enhanced HD graphics, new controls that support Wii MotionPlus, and online multiplayer. There's also Miiverse support, which allows players to join various state or regional clubs.

Wii Sports Club represents a few different ways that Nintendo is embracing modern ideas. It's an HD remake and split into separate component sports, which are sold through the eShop as either 24-hour rentals or full sports. But the company might eventually go back to the old ways, as president Satoru Iwata admits it could someday be packaged together as a retail release.

Wii Sports Club for Wii U adds MotionPlus support and online multiplayer

Wii Sports is getting an HD remake. The five original sports of Wii's iconic pack-in game are coming back, retooled and enhanced for Wii U.

Bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing, and golf make their return for Nintendo's new home console. Although the five games are all part of "Wii Sports Club," they'll actually be released individually via Nintendo eShop. Each game will feature HD graphics, enhanced controls via Wii MotionPlus, and online multiplayer.
