Wasteland 2 gameplay trailer sentenced to 18 minutes in the slammer

RPGs tend to feature a ton of characters in the form of villagers and merchants, but many of them have only a few lines of dialogue and little personality. Wasteland 2 is aiming to be more dynamic, as inXile president Matt Findley says that characters are individually crafted to react differently to various party compositions.

Wasteland 2 delayed due to expanded scope

inXile Entertainment had long hoped to launch Wasteland 2 in October, but has needed to push its crowdfunded RPG back a little. All those stretch goals it hit have made for a whole lot of extra work, see, so development's running about six weeks behind. inXile now plans to deliver the beta to backers in October.

Wasteland 2 signs physical distribution deal with Deep Silver

One big drive in the recent crowdfunding bonanza has been a sentiment of "publishers can go rot", but publishers do provide valuable services beyond developers' area of expertise.

Wasteland 2 developer inXile today announced it's tapping Deep Silver for help on the crowdfunded RPG, signing a distribution deal that'll see the Dead Island publisher handling the boxed retail release and physical rewards for Kickstarter backers. It'll also help test localisations.

inXile and Obsidian sharing RPG tools and tech

Obsidian and inXile are awfully chummy, with a shared history going back to Interplay and Black Isle Studios, close enough that they want to lend members like a cup of sugar. Both Californian studios are making crowdfunded Unity-based old-school RPGs too, and so are putting their heads together. inXile today announced that they'll be collaborating on tools and tech with each other.

Three months after the Kickstarter campaign for Wasteland 2 ended with $3.04 million, developer inXile has released the very first screenshot. It's still very much work-in-progress, but gives an idea of the wacky and wonderful scenarios we can expect from the post-apocalyptic RPG: a group of badass desperadoes facing down a roboscorpion.

Enough people were excited about the prospect of a sequel to 1987's post-apocalyptic RPG Wasteland for the Kickstarter campaign to hit its $900,000 goal in only two days, but how many pledgers actually played the original? Ah. I haven't. Have you? Well, no matter, soon we'll all be able to play, as developer inXile has announced Wasteland 2 will come with the first Wasteland.

Wasteland 2 Kickstarter ends with $3.04 million

When inXile's crowd-funding drive for a Wasteland 2 hit its goal within two days, it was clear it'd be something big. As the pledging period ended this morning, inXile confirmed that it has scooped $3,040,574 to make a sequel to the classic post-apocalyptic RPG.
