Warhammer 40K Hits DS, PSP with Squad Command
Games Workshop's tabletop Warhammer 40,000 sci-fi universe will be coming to Nintendo DS and PSP courtesy of an unnamed developer, THQ announced today. The publisher plans to ship Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command this fall. The turn-based strategy game puts players in control of a Space Marine squad battling the forces of Chaos through a 13-mission campaign. Both versions support online multiplayer, containing two Space Marine and two Chaos factions, for up to eight players. Squad Command is said to feature "fully destructible, real time 3D battlefields." Three screenshots of the PSP version were released. Relic Entertainment has seen high acclaim for its THQ-published Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War real-time strategy games. In February, THQ acquired the broad video game rights to the Warhammer 40,000 license, and announced its intention to take the franchise into other genres. Austin-based Vigil Games is currently developing an MMO based on the universe.
