If you'd like to play Warface, and can stop giggling at the name 'Warface' for a few minutes, signups are now open for the closed beta test of Crytek's free-to-play PC shooter. Crytek's also blasted out a new trailer showing off Warface's player classes, and a nice stompy robot.

Crysis 2 developer Crytek has announced that its free-to-play Warface will come Westward in 2012. The sillily-named shooter was previously only confirmed for South Korea and China, where the F2P model is hugely successful.
Along with the PvP modes you'd expect from a class-based multiplayer shooter, Warface will pack PvE co-op missions. It's being co-produced by Crytek Seoul.

Crytek's awkwardly-named Warface, its new CryENGINE 3-powered free-to-play shooter for Asian markets, has secured a publisher for China. Tencent will publish the game in the country and introduce it to the market there, which should give the game a decent shot of becoming incredibly profitable for Crytek.
The game was originally announced for South Korea out of Crytek's Seoul office, but was always planned for operation in additional territories. Now, unless you live in that part of the world, you'll probably never play Warface, but you can look at this trailer comprised of pre-Alpha gameplay from the game. Read more »

Crysis developer Crytek has announced that it's working on a free-to-play multiplayer shooter for Asian markets, powered by the engine behind Crysis 2. The name of the game? Warface.
No, stop laughing. Co-produced by Crytek Seoul in South Korea, Warface--stop it!--will feature co-op missions as well as your regular class-based PvP play. Free-to-play games are commonplace in many Asian markets, usually supported by microtransactions for premium features and in-game bonuses. Read more »

Crytek, developer of the Crysis games and the CryEngine technology behind them, has filed for three new trademarks-- Gface, Carvatar, and Kingdoms--reports GameSpot.
With the filings covering "computer game software and electronic games," a recent tech demo of CryEngine 3 sporting medieval battle footage, and Crytek's status as a developer, there's speculation that at least one trademark could be a game title. Read more »
