The demo for 8Monkey Labs' time-travelling shooter Darkest of Days has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace today, offering the tutorial and a slice of the Civil War battle of Antietam to Gold subscribers, while Silver members must wait until next Tuesday.

Have you ever gone to a hunting resort in the age of dinosaurs and stepped on a butterfly? Have you ever visited Hill Valley in 1955 and cock-blocked your dad? If so, you've probably learned the one simple rule of traveling into the past: don't change anything or you'll wind up changing everything. But what if the past has /already/ been changed? Is it then okay to bring a sweet-ass assault rifle to the American Civil War and start chewing up Confederate soldiers with white-hot futuristic lead?
This question is handily answered in the time-bending Darkest of Days demo. Here's a humorous "weapons training" trailer for 8monkey Labs' time-traveling shooter Darkest of Days, meant to brief you on the various old-timey and futuristic weapons you'll be able to use while fighting in the American Civil War, World War I, and so forth.
It also shows what happens when you go up against Romans with an assault rifle (spoiler: what you'd expect). The game ships off in PC and Xbox 360 form September 8. Read more »

Tired of all those games that get caught up in the silly trappings of historical accuracy? Then you may want to check out 8monkey Labs' "historically-based" time-traveling shooter Darkest of Days, due for a September 8, 2009 release on PC and Xbox 360.
Rather than say anything else about the awe-inspiring concept, in which players travel back to major historical events and utilize futuristic weaponry to ensure an uncorrupted time stream, I'll let the press release and first trailer speak for themselves: Read more »

Replay Studios founder Marc Moehring said that the company is sticking with console-only development after the completion of Velvet Assassin (PS3, X360) due to concerns with the PC gaming industry.
"Germany's famous for its PC market," Moehring told Gamasutra. "but we're planning on going to consoles more in the future. Our in-house technology works on Xbox 360, but it's not possible to port it to PS3, so we'll have to change things. We don't want to hire a whole team just for technology." Read more »
