Inspired by Indiana Jones, the Uncharted series is one of the most cinematic productions in gaming right now. Instead of waiting for the live action Hollywood adaptation of the franchise, morphinapg on YouTube decided to take matters into his own hands: edit footage of all three games in the series into three feature-length films.
To do so, morphinapg not only grabbed every cinematic from the games, he also added the "minimum amount of gameplay" necessary to make sure the story would still make sense to someone that's never played the game.

It would appear that Nathan Drake is going to go through a spat of déjà vu before his next adventure unwinds. According to CVG, an Uncharted Collection will launch on the PlayStation 3 next month.
The Uncharted set is scheduled to arrive alongside the previously confirmed Resistance Collection. The Uncharted bundle had briefly appeared on Best Buy's website; however, it has since been removed. The game was reportedly priced for $39.99 and set to launch on July 22. Read more »

Could Marky Mark be the live-action version of Uncharted's wise-cracking hero, Nathan Drake? According to a recent interview with MTV, the former Funky Bunch frontman is expected to star in the videogame-to-film adaptation that starts shooting next summer, directed by David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter). (via Joystiq)
Whalberg doesn't confirm whether he'll be starring as series protagonist Nathan Drake, but it seems likely, given his assertion that director Russel is writing parts for other Hollywood heavy-hitters. Apparently, he's got Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in mind to play Whalberg's character's father and uncle, respectively. Those characters would be new to the Uncharted canon, having not appeared in either game, but given Russel's track record and the talent he's trying to involve, we're begrudgingly inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. The hardest part of a DotA-style game is learning how it actually works, while dealing with the entrenched communities that have little to no patience for new players. In an effort to combat this, Riot Games has added a tutorial mode called "Battle Training" to League of Legends.
I was able to preview the mode last week and you can read my impressions now. Read more »

Riot Games is adding an advanced tutorial to its DotA-alike game League of Legends. While the game has a basic tutorial that explains the very basics of the game in a non-game scenario, the Battle Training mode takes place on the game's 5-versus-5 Summoner's Rift map.
Players can also earn experience and influence points--albeit at a reduced rate--in this mode, which adds some replayability. The tutorial covers everything from the character selection screen through the post-game report. Read more »

Valve's announcement of Dota 2 is sure to give massive exposure to the RTS sub-genre that became popular with the Warcraft III custom map "Defense of the Ancients" (DotA). To that end, we here at Shacknews thought we'd explain what DotA is and how you can play it--or a game based upon it--while you wait for Valve's 2011 release.
Defense of the Ancients is actually based upon the "Aeon of Strife" custom map for the original StarCraft, but was brought to Warcraft III as DotA. Many different developers worked on the map, but IceFrog--now working on Dota 2 with Valve--has updated the game since 2005 with DotA-Allstars. Read more »
