Tropico 5 introducing dynasties and multiplayer

After Tropico 3 revived the city-build strategy series, Tropico 4 was a pretty safe sequel--not bad, but not bold. How pleasant, then, that developer Haemimont Games is getting creative with Tropico 5, announced today by publisher Kalypso. Spanning several centuries, it'll see El Presidente building a lasting dynasty, and boast four-player co-operative and competitive multiplayer t'boot.

True to its name, the expansion takes into account all the modern conveniences that could help or hurt a modern dictator. Tropico 4 and Stronghold 3 pre-orders include bonus games

Stronghold 3 and Tropico 4 are just around the corner. To entice gamers into pre-ordering the upcoming titles, both Steam and Direct2Drive are offering a number of bonuses.

When publisher Kalypso announced an Xbox 360 edition of Haemimont's Tropico 4 in February, the game was due to arrive in the second quarter of 2011. Evidently, El Presidente was making campaign pledges he could not keep, as it's now expected to hit PC and 360 in August.

While El Presidente struggles with his timing, he clearly still cares for us, as we have a new teaser trailer to enjoy. The trailer gives a quick overview of the city-building strategy game's new features, from "interactive" natural disasters to new global superpowers. Read more »

Kalypso Media has confirmed its previously revealed next installment in the Tropico series will come to the Xbox 360 in addition to the PC version. Tropico 3 also found a home on Microsoft's home console.

No firm release had been set for Tropico 4; however, the Haemimont Games-developed title is promised to arrive within Q2 2011. The world-crafting, strategy title puts players back into the olive fatigues of the "iron-fisted ruler" of the small island of Tropico. This time, El Presidente must contend with enhanced political and economic systems while playing across new missions on new maps. Read more »

Tropico 4 Announced for 2011

El Presidente will return next year with a few new tricks up his sleeve in a new entry in the island republic simulator series Tropico, publisher Kalypso Media announced today.

Helmed by Tropico 3 developer Haemimont Games, Tropico 4 will feature a new campaign of twenty missions across ten maps. Other shiny newness includes twenty buildings such as "Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente," six disasters including "volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes," a Council of Ministers and trading with other nations.
