As mentioned last night TRIBES2 has been selling really darn well, in fact so well that the Dynamix master server hasnt been able to keep up. They've shuffled things around some though and here's a bit from the Senior Producer via Tribalwar:
Tonight we dramatically reduced the number of threads serving the community so that we could feed the starving Auth Servers more power. That stranglehold on the Auth Servers was killing us and preventing people from joining the games. That should be MUCH better now (although you may have to try to authenticate several times still before getting in...but you *should* get in). However, this is currently at the cost of the community sections. So...because we're erring on the side of making sure people can get in and play the actual game, the News, Email, and Forums sections are going to be slower for a couple of days. (They'll still work, but they'll be as non-responsive as a busy web page would be.)
In addition, there is a new TRIBES2 patch available via the auto-updater v22017 that you'll need to get going. Go play!

A lot of people picked up a copy of TRIBES2 today and yesterday and guess what, the new CDKey authentication system is causing a lot of people to not be able to play the game online at all. DOH! Here's word from the senior producer at Dynamix: Thanks GoofyBoy
I make no excuses. You are 100% right. If I was in your shoes, I'd be pissed off also. We are trying to figure out what the HELL went wrong so we can fix it. Believe me, we're all just as angry as you are. We've been running a continuous test on this thing for months now and never had the problems we're experiencing today. Call it bad luck, karma, or just Murphy striking...but we aim to get it fixed soon. I don't blame ANY of you for being upset. But I apologize anyway. Nobody is going home tonight until we find the problem.

ShackES was carrying this story in the morning about another league offering cash prizes which seems to be the norm lately, however I didnt read the fine print. Check this out:
TWL will be awarding a $2000 prize *each* month for the #1 Tribes 2 CTF ladder team. The winning team for a given month must hold the #1 position on the first second, of the first day of the month. The contest begins with the #1 team on May 1st, 2001 on the TWL.
That translates out to $24,000 a year if you can keep your TRIBES2 team the best in the nation. I really wonder just where in the world is TWL going to be recouping that money that they are giving out? They certainly arent gonna make that $ back on ad banners from their website... :)

Tribal War has some info on the first Tribes2 patch which will be ready for download once the game hits stores, fixing performance on Voodoo cards. Supposedly performance was pretty lousy for 3dfx card owners before.

The apocalypse is here! Cats and dogs living together! Sierra Studios has announced that TRIBES2 has gone gold! With the announcement we can expect to see the game on shelves in the matter of a few weeks. They sure tested and tested and tested this game so I would only imagine that by the time we get it there should be the glimmer of spit shine. Here's a bit of the PR from Stomped:
Sierra today announced that TRIBES(tm) 2 (www.tribes2.com), Dynamix's eagerly awaited sequel to the 1999 Online Action/Strategy Game of the Year* StarSiege(r) TRIBES(tm), has gone gold. Offering PC gamers massive and breathtaking worlds for exploration and battle, as well as unprecedented innovations in team-based, tactical gameplay, TRIBES 2 is set to take over store shelves around the world first week of April. "TRIBES 2 is revolutionary not only for its gameplay, but for its community-building features, such as forums, e-mail, IRC, news, tribes/player pages and in-game voice,"
I couldnt bring myself to post
screenshots along with the announcement, sorry :(

There's a press release by GarageGames (ex Dynamix Tribes guys) on Stomped, announcing their plan to license their version of the Tribes2 engine to independent game developers for a mere $100. Besides this fee, GarageGames will publish the title through their website and there's a chance the game might be picked up to be published by Sierra. A very nice option for startup developers.
Our version of the Tribes 2 technology, christened the V12 Engine, will have all of the Tribes 2 specific intellectual property, such as models, skins, and WON.net encryption removed before the source code is released for purchase at our site after the Computer Game Developer’s Conference in late March. Soon after that, we will release a demo, example source code, and begin our own set of improvements in order to keep the technology on the cutting edge, “ said Rick Overman, founder and Chief Technology Officer.
