Microsoft sure does love its limited edition controllers. The next colorful addition to your lineup of Halo-themed controllers is Tomb Raider.
The "Tomb Raider Limited Edition Wireless Controller" as it's officially called is "the perfect commemorative companion marking Lara Croft's return to the Xbox 360," according to Microsoft's official PR. Designed in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, the red controller is scratched and bandaged--much like Lara will be in the first two hours of the game!

Tomb Raider is getting multiplayer, whether you want it or not. Eidos Montreal is tasked with introducing online competitive gameplay to a traditionally single-player franchise, and a new video released by Square Enix shows us the fruits of their labor.
Multiplayer has you playing as either the ruthless island Scavengers or crew members from the shipwrecked Endurance. Set across the island Lara plays through, you'll mow each other down in a number of competitive modes.

Pre-ordering games usually nets you some kind of bauble or in-game item, but what to do while you wait for the game to actually come out? Tomb Raider is taking a unique approach to the problem by granting those who pre-order access to a "Scavenger Hunt" mobile game. It will provide weekly trivia and photo challenges, complete with prizes to be doled out in March when the game releases.

As the reimagined Tomb Raider inches closer to release, Square Enix has released a new trailer series: "Guide to Survival." The first video delves into how Lara "uses her smarts to become a survivor."
The Base Camp system is also detailed, showing how Lara can upgrade her gear to become more useful, while also explaining a bit about her survival instinct skill, which will allow the player to find hidden goodies or solve puzzles.

Tomb Raider is a full-on franchise reboot, so it's not surprising that Crystal Dynamics is considering sequels. It is slightly surprising, however, that it seems like a sequel is already in the planning stages, if comments from global brand director Karl Stewart are any indication.

The new Tomb Raider marks a fresh start for Lara Croft, as less of a disproportionate sex bomb and more of an identifiable human character. But that reboot is running into some bumps, as the team at Crystal Dynamics tries to balance the tone of putting this younger, more innocent Lara in harm's way. A few comments, particularly revolving around a dire attempted rape, have been causing issues for the studio.

THE DEMO: Lara is not having a good day. After surviving her boat crash, she finds herself in quite a dire circumstance. She must find food to eat. But first, she needs a weapon if she plans on adding some protein to her new jungle diet.

Lara's gritty foray into the heart of darkness is getting timed-exclusive downloadable content, as revealed during today's Microsoft E3 press briefing. After showing off an extended gameplay demonstration with Lara holding her own against plenty of armed aggressors, it was revealed that Tomb Raider will have its first piece of DLC will release first on Xbox 360.
