Not to be quietly outdone by the Skyrim Collector's Edition we unboxed earlier today, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North also comes in loot laden Collector's Edition. We cracked it open as well to see what the $140 price tag buys.
The contents comes all wrapped up in a full-size leather quiver. The highlight of the package, a proper cloth map of middle earth, done in the style of a wall scroll, is wound around the two arrows it carries. Handle with care, though, we already managed to break one of the plastic arrowheads. A pouch on the front contains the game, and an art book with a soundtrack CD in it.
Get a closer look at it all after the jump in our unboxing gallery, and while you're at it check out the War in the North launch trailer that debuted today as well.

The latest developer blog for the Lord of the Rings: War in the North reveals that the two challenge maps, previously planned to be exclusive pre-order incentives, will be included on the disc for everyone. "After seeing the passion from the Community and Fans for this mode of play, we have decided to put them on disc for everyone to enjoy!" reads the post. Recreating two legendary battle grounds of Middle Earth, the two challenge maps unleash waves of enemies on the heroes in an arena-style fight. As the blog points out, they offer a good way to earn experience, loot, coins, and achievements.

One does not simply load up The Lord of the Rings: War in the North; you'll need to wait until November 1, for one thing. Publisher Warner Bros. has today confirmed the release date for Snowblind's Tolkien-inspired action-RPG, which is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Following the November 1 North American launch, it'll hit Australia on November 2 and Europe on November 4, War in the North's Facebook page reveals.

A trio of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North fact-nuggets have been announced today for Snowblind's action-RPG. Firstly, a fall 2011 launch has been confirmed for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 game. Secondly, the pre-order bonuses have been unveiled. Lastly, there will be a $130 Collector's Edition which comes in a quiver--yes, a case for holding arrows.
Packed into a leather-looking (pleather?) quiver, the $129.99 CE will offer a copy of the game, an art book, interviews and footage concerning the soundtrack by Inon Zur, and three tracks from the game soundtrack. On Xbox 360, you'll also get a set of Ranger armour, helmet, quiver and bow for your Avatar, whilst PlayStation 3 players will receive a PS3 theme pack instead. No word on any fancy digital bonuses for the PC edition. Read more »

2011 is shaping up to be a great year for video games. Here at Shacknews we've pored over the treasure trove of titles coming this year and each picked out a select few games to highlight. It's up to Garnett to close it out with his most anticipated of 2011.
Guild Wars 2: Guild Wars earned a loyal following for being the online multiplayer RPG that wasn't trying to be World of Warcraft (WoW). Buy the game, create your character, and play with friends without forking over a monthly fee. Adventures all took place in instances, unique versions of the world created for your group, as opposed to the massive world of WoW. And the game did a nice job of creating both a rich set of PvE quests and PvP arenas. Read more »

Part two of our massive E3 2010 wrap up picks up where last week left off with a plethora of games that would satisfy even El Guapo. So naturally it begins with guns, and lots of them in what we're dubbing E3 shooterpalooza. Headliners for the segment include Rage, Halo: Reach, Bulletstorm, Brink, Deus Ex, Gears of War 3, FEAR 3, and more. But it's not all bullet-time either; once the clip is empty it's on to Epic Mickey, Mortal Kombat, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, True Crime, Dead Space 2, and more. Plus we've got your response to our love for Rock Band and what to do with motion controls. We're getting back to the regular flow next week so be sure to come by Shacknews and get in the show thread.
