Square Enix licenses Unreal Engine 3 for multiple games

Square Enix has announced that it plans on using Unreal Engine 3 on "multiple games." The deal was brokered in part by Epic Games Japan.

"Many Western games have achieved great success with the Unreal Engine, and this milestone reflects the Japanese development community’s trust in our technical prowess," Epic Games Japan's Taka Kawasaki said in the announcement. "We can’t wait to see how Square Enix fuses the power of Unreal Engine 3 with its beautiful characters, enthralling storylines and fantastic gameplay."

Square Enix Joins Steam

Titles from Final Fantasy series developer Square Enix will soon begin appearing on Valve's PC digital distribution platform Steam, the two companies announced today.

Coming April 9, the PC version of The Last Remnant will be Square's first Steam release, and will also integrate Steamworks for as-yet-unspecified functionality. The action-RPG arrived on Xbox 360 last fall, with a PlayStation 3 release due later on. Read more »

The Last Remnant Screenshots: Now in English

As acclaimed Japanese developer Square Enix prepares for the Tokyo Game Show, it has released the first English-language battle screens from The Last Remnant.

The latest role-playing game out of Square, Remnant is slated to hit Xbox 360s worldwide on November 20, with PC and PlayStation 3 editions following at a later date.

The Last Remnant Screenshot Flood Unleashed

As Final Fantasy creator Square Enix prepares to unleash the Xbox 360 edition of The Last Remnant on November 20, the developer has issued over 50 screenshots from its latest role-playing effort.

PC and PlayStation 3 editions of The Last Remnant are planned to follow the Xbox 360 version, though a solid release window has not been disclosed.

The Last Remnant Hits Nov. 20, Coming to PC Later

The Last Remnant will hit Xbox 360 on November 20 in North America, Japan and Europe, Square Enix revealed in a surprise appearance at Microsoft's E3 press briefing.

The company also announced that The Last Remanant will arrive on PC at an unspecified later date. The title is also slated for an unspecified later PlayStation 3 release.

New Square Franchise Last Remnant Hits 360 First, Arriving Worldwide This Winter

Square Enix has announced that its new RPG franchise The Last Remnant will arrive on Xbox 360 worldwide this winter, with a PlayStation 3 release to follow later on.

Announced over a year ago, the Unreal Engine 3-powered title was previously believed to hit both platforms simultaneously. The Bouncer (PS2) and Unlimited SaGa (PS2) production manager Nobuyuki Ueda is serving as the game's producer. Read more »
