It is about time the we hear of an expansion to Skyrim. I personally surprised this all didn't happen sooner considering how quickly Bethesda released expansions to New Vegas after the release of the game. I expect nothing but great things from Dawnguard. I just hope Dawnguard is the first of many expansions for Skyrim Bethesda plans to release. What do you guys think?
Decided to play a little Skyrim for the first time in weeks to finish up some misc quests. At one point I was just outside Falkreath when I was bailed up by a thief and soon locked in mortal combat. I was letting him whale on my upraised shield to get my block skill raised when I noticed a familiar silhouette approaching from the distance. Dragon armor? Could it be? It WAS! Lydia was plodding home after I'd dismissed her much earlier. She killed the guy and with a parting "Honor to you, my thane" she set off again. The body started sliding down the hill to Falkreath and I had to run after it to chase down my lockpick and 5gp. The guard at city gate eyed me suspiciously.
Yea. I just saw about 10 different threads on the game but I decided to start another one.
Let me preface: I never played Morrowind, and I never played Oblivion. This is my first Bethesdian Fantasy RPG.
Does anyone find this game WAY TOO EASY?
I just dinged LVL 16 and just joined my first faction - the Dark Brotherhood. I've slayed 3 dragons which includes the 1st Whiterun quest one. I think in the entire time I've been playing I've died maybe once? Which I remember and that was the Red Eagle Tomb dude.
I'm starting to get a little bored in the fact that nothing is really challenging and that I've explored a large part of the map. Is it just that my build is so incredibly easy?
I've basically max'd Archery, Sneak, One-Hand as far as they will go (~40 @ LVL16) to make me a killer battle axe rogue but everything is such a piece of cake. Now that joined the Dark Brotherhood and got the wicked Shrouded Armor I feel things are just going to get even easier :(
Does the block-tree work for two-handed weapons? I see the skill increases when I block with my trusty 2h sword, but would like to know if its worth putting any skill points into it when I'm not going to use shields much.
I am sorry for creating yet-another-skyrim thread, but I could not find any solid information on this
I was looking at my save last night, I believe it said something like 45 hours (I am level 30 with 20+ dragon shouts) and I was thinking how much I would actually pay for this game. 45 hours is more time I have put into UC3, Gears 3, Rage and several other games combined. I would honestly pay $200+ for this game if they charged it. It has so much content it is worth it. My Oblivion time was 100+ and I also have 100 in Fallout and 90 something in NV.
So I have been looking around everywhere for dwarven amor, even in the Dwemer Ruins and all I have found is a shield and sword. I would like to get the full deal, anyone know where I can go to find it?
Skyrim question: is there any skill involved in melee? Or is it just statline comparison?
I'm asking because I've never played a game like this. FPS games require aim, and sth like Diablo requires spatial awareness to decide an angle of attack and when to run out of trouble.
Haxim, you are my hero for collecting all of these together. Perhaps someday the Shack community will make proper use of these game-specific chatties...
Skyrim
Theives guild quest line at the very end I have the skeleton key Im in the middle of the last area before I loose it and am wondering if it may be advantageous to just not finish the quest and keep it. What do I get for finishing the questline??
I just re-rolled my character and totally started over. Instead of a melee sneak / archery / rogue-ish build like i went last time, this time I chose a Breton as my starting character.
Breton's start with bonuses in Conflag and Illusion but get 0 bonuses in Destruction.
My question is that is a Conflag / Illsuion focused build viable? Breton's start with 0 bonueses in destruction so should I really focus any points in there?
I'm amused with the idea of using a non-destruction build but FIRE is almost absolutely necessary in any mage build isn't it?
I'm not worried about having to kite like shit or anything. Just wondering if Conflag/ Illusion is really viable?
So, I was surprised with SKYRIM last night from my GF.
This game is so freaking gorgeous. I had seen screenshots and videos, but that just doesn't convey the awesomeness of the living world around you. It's amazing. When the game starts there's a bunch of scripted event, and i giggled a little, and thought nothing of it, but once you're turned to your own devices, it was like someone opened my eyes. I spent a good hour just running around messing with everything right off the beginning. I found wondering hunters to trade with, a pair of wolves scared the living bajesus out of me, found a small encampment of female viking amazons, then watched fish jumping upstream in a river.
It's incredible. I then got to the first town and went into the first dungeon I think. That in itself was worth the price of admission. There was no cookie cutter style layouts in it at all, a couple traps, nothing too hard, but it was like "OOOH!!!! HEEEEEHEHEHE THIS IS AWESOME" And I pwn'd a couple zombies in the face HARD! This game is going to suck in my time like no other. And I hated Oblivion. Go figure.
-Can I effectively be a jack of all trades? I generally carry a one handed weapon and will off hand a shield or spell, but occasionally I like to bust out a bow. Will I suffer tremendously for not maxing one category? I also enjoy the stealth and thieving aspects to the game, but it doesn't really fit my character. Can I still do that stuff much or will I be hampered a lot?
-Will I suffer for not having a companion(s) with me? I don't like having Lydia following me around. I am Thoreau of Elder Scrolls land.
-Why are houses in Solitude so fucking expensive? I like the city, I shouldn't have to live in stupid Whiterun. That city is Rohan, but without Bernard Hill and Karl Urban.
Is it just me or are there dragons everywhere in skyrim? I've killed 19 of them so far and acouple of times I've ran into two of them right next to each other (Luckly didn't have to fight them both at the same time, although I did have to fight a dragon and two bears at the same time once)
This game is insanely big with so much shit to do. I spent all day Sunday just killing deer and bears for their pelts and then making leather that I then used to level up my smithing.
What have you been occupying your time with in skyrim?
I'm not buying Skyrim. Not even endless threads and a bombardment of Shackhype can persuade me.
I've never liked a single player RPG before, so I dont know why I'd start to like them now. I've played a few of them from the old Zelda/Chrono-Trigger days up to Windwaker on GC and also more recent games like Two Worlds II. The most I've played out of any of them was maybe a couple hours of Windwaker. I've tried to like them, but they just don't hold my attention.
I still see long stretches of mediocre dialogue and endless books with 30 pages of alchemy text and lockpicking and collecting random boring objects in this game.
What separates this game from the others, or is it just the latest in the genre to collect the drool of RPG fans globally?
I met a guy in the woods yesterday while taking a walk. He was collecting ingredients for some chef. So I killed him, took all his things and dumped his body in a nearby river. Then I went home and played skyrim.
Since I'll be picking up Skyrim today, can we talk about boxed vs digital distro? Is there even really any reason to pick up a box any more? Any goodies in the Skyrim box?
I'm leaning toward just grabbing it from Steam, it is awfully easy that way. What do you all think?
Ok for serious. In the GB Skyrim quicklook, Rudds mentions he found one of those stone/enchanty things that give you perks, and this one lets you carry 100 lbs extra.
I'm driving to work today and I catch myself peering at the foliage along the road, searching for any bunches of wildflowers, lilacs, cotton or even a butterfly or two.

I'm full-magic. I wear robes. Therefore I have 0 armor. How do I go about not dying in 1 hit? Restoration Wards? Alteration?

Dear JERKS,
I'm buying Skyrim on PC despite not really being able to afford it because I have no willpower thanks to all of YOU.
GreenManGaming has some referral code thing -- first person to reply with their code I will use on their site to save you $5 on your next purchase.
(Also, are there any coupons for GMG to get Skyrim more than 10% off?)

Skyrim, Not really spoilers but don't read on if you get fussy about seeing item sets.
I was asked to post my Dragonplate armor stats earlier so here they are! It takes 100/100 blacksmithing as well as the bones / scales.

Skyrim leveling observation:
So if you play a pure mage you end up leveling a lot slower than .. anything else?
I'm not sneaking, I'm not using armor, I'm not using weapons.. the only thing I use is destruction spell.
I played ~30h and I'm only lvl13 my friend whos playing a rogue is lvl 17 in ~10h.
