Bethesda Softworks had a generally good track record with its Fallout 3 downloadable content packs, but stated up-front that it wanted more meat to its content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This set some weighty expectations, but at double the price tag, "Dawnguard" feels like much more than double the content of Fallout's DLC packs.

Despite the summer's dearth of new releases, the Weekend Confirmed crew get into some spirited discussions about Diablo 3's questionable end-game, and what it's like to be a vampire in Skyrim's new expansion, Dawnguard. Garnett, Jeffs Cannata and Mattas, and regular guest Andrea Rene also delve into some talk about the Day Z beta mod that brings hardcore zombie survival to ArmA 2, and opine a bit about ZombiU and Sim City Social as well. The eclectic mix of topics all wraps up with another batch of Finishing Moves.

The Dawnguard needed me to continue on its quest, but first there was the little issue of my latent vampirism. I was directed to Morthal, to meet with Falion. He tells me the only way to cure this evil inside is to use a Black Soul Gem. He conveniently sold these, making me wonder if this wasn't some elaborate sales pitch. But as he pointed out, I needed a filled Gem, which means killing someone and taking their soul to bind inside the artifact.
Wait. This is supposed to make me less evil?

(Continued from Dawnguard Diaries: Plight of the Lizard Wizard)
I accepted Lord Harkon's offer, and he came at me like a bolt of lightning. Everything went fuzzy and dark, and I woke up in a part of Volkihar Keep that I didn't recognize. Harkon was waiting for me, apparently having watched me sleep. Vampires are creepers, you know. He guided me through my vampire powers: the ability to change forms, turn to a swarm of bats, and so on. Truth be told, I was really hoping that my vampire form would be some sort of lizard-vampire, but alas I look like any run-of-the-mill Vampire Lord.

Lacertus the Argonian mage was a legend, once: Skyrim's greatest dragon slayer, leader of the Dark Brotherhood, arch-mage of Winterhold, and mammoth liberator. That was a long time ago. The great Lizard Wizard had long since gone into retirement, enjoying quiet solitude sorting and resorting his potions into a single (surprisingly spacious) chest at his home in Breezewood.
But recently, I had heard whispers of a new faction. City officers would speak of the Dawnguard gathering its forces again. Clearly, it was time to add a new title to my resume, and to take up the mantle of Lacertus once more.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has been teasing its Dawnguard downloadable content, but short of a name and a teaser image we haven't had much to judge for the add-on. That all changes today, with the release of a rather long trailer for Dawnguard, giving hints at the story and some of the enemies you'll be facing.

Bethesda has announced details for their next Skyrim update. Patch 1.6 will add one of the fans' most-requested features: mounted combat. With the update, players will be able to do melee and ranged combat while riding a horse, as seen in the screenshot above.
In addition, the 1.6 patch will add a flurry of bug fixes, including general stability and memory optimizations, AI pathfinding optimizations, and crash fixes for data leaks. The update will be available on all three platforms, but there's no date yet.
