Capcom, Evo, and G4 have just announced that G4tv.com will stream 45 hours of live coverage via Stickam from the Evolution 2010 Championship Series of fighting game tournaments, which takes place next weekend from July 9 to 11 in Las Vegas, NV.
Now, selfishly, I must announce that this is incredibly awesome as I initially pitched the idea of G4 coverage to Capcom and Seth Killian back in January while checking out an early build of Super Street Fighter IV when I was still with G4. I attended Evo 2009 and even competed and saw first hand how exciting the series is. Of course, I must give it up to G4, Capcom, Evo, and Stickam for getting the deal done and for bringing full stream coverage and television coverage to the fighting community. Read more »

Facing "extraordinary losses" of up to 31 billion yen (~$342 million USD) for the fiscal year ending in March 2010, publisher Namco Bandai has announced a new "group restart plan" in the hopes of lowering costs and significantly reducing its global workforce.
As part of the plan, the company behind Tekken and Pac-Man will be soliciting employees for early voluntary retirement in hopes of reducing its workforce by 630 (about 10% of the current 7000) by the end of 2010. The move accounts for a loss of roughly 2 billion yen (~$22 million USD) but is expected to save 3.5 billion yen (~$38 million USD) across the next fiscal year. Read more »

Having repeatedly vowed to bring online cooperative play to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Tekken 6, publisher Namco has now announced that the free update to the fighter's Scenario Campaign will roll out next Monday, January 18.
Similar in concept to Streets of Rage or any other arcade brawler, Tekken 6's Scenario Campaign sees two players working their way through stages and beating up "vicious opponents and their legions of minions" instead of engaging in one-on-one combat. Previously, it could only be played offline with a computer-controlled ally. Read more »

Evander Holyfield and a legion of other real-world fighters star in this montage, which explores their various motivations behind entering the arena. What exactly this has to do with Tekken 6, which isn't mentioned up until the very end, I have no idea.
Namco Bandai's fighter sequel, which as far as we know does not feature any of these athletes in any capacity beyond this promotional campaign, hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 27. A handheld edition of the game is due on PSP later in the fall. Read more »
