Takedown was unusual amongst crowd-funded games in that developer Serellan was looking to make a prototype, which it would then shop around to raise more money and actually make the game. Unconventional, but it's worked. Publisher 505 Games today announced that it has picked up the tactical FPS and will release it later this year under the name Takedown: Red Sabre.

Talk about cutting it close. After languishing well below its $200,000 Kickstarter goal for almost a month for its proposed tactical shooter Takedown, developer Serellan finally made its number with less than three hours to go. The devs can credit a more in-depth Kickstarter page and a last ditch promotion effort with only a week to go in the campaign.

Crowd-sourcing has become a hot topic in recent months, either with independent efforts or through the funding site Kickstarter. But the site isn't a magic pill for all indie developers, and one such studio has reboot its efforts to fund a tactical shooter.
