Takedown: Red Sabre preview: a tactical love letter

Indie developer Serellan is looking to cater to the tactical military shooter crowd--an audience that seems under-served in this post-COD era of games. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Serellan is just about ready to release Takedown: Red Sabre, a love letter to games like the original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

Serellan's Christian Allen is best known for his work as creative director of the Ghost Recon franchise and lead designer for Halo: Reach. Walking through Takedown: Red Sabre, he explained that "the premise of the game is a hardcore realistic CQB tactical shooter. All the game systems are built around realism and lethality, nonlinearity, and replayability."

Takedown tactical FPS picked up by 505 Games

Takedown was unusual amongst crowd-funded games in that developer Serellan was looking to make a prototype, which it would then shop around to raise more money and actually make the game. Unconventional, but it's worked. Publisher 505 Games today announced that it has picked up the tactical FPS and will release it later this year under the name Takedown: Red Sabre.

Takedown hits its Kickstarter goal

Talk about cutting it close. After languishing well below its $200,000 Kickstarter goal for almost a month for its proposed tactical shooter Takedown, developer Serellan finally made its number with less than three hours to go. The devs can credit a more in-depth Kickstarter page and a last ditch promotion effort with only a week to go in the campaign.
