Though sales-tracking firm NPD Group will not release April's data for another hour, Nintendo has already chimed in with some results.
According to the company, the Wii ranked as the month's top-selling hardware with 714,000 units sold in the United States across April and Mario Kart Wii placed as the month's second best-selling game.
Following Microsoft's declaration that the Xbox 360 has sold 10 million in the United States, Nintendo noted that the Wii has now sold over 9.5 million units in the territory. Read more »

To put it simply, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is more of the same. But as we've observed with several franchises, more of the same isn't always a bad thing—especially when it's a lot more. In fact, there's so much friggin' content in Super Smash Bros. Brawl that it's awfully difficult to see the bottom, and after a solid nine hours with the game, I've only barely touched on all that the game has to offer.
Hardcore Melee fans will be pleased that the core gameplay hasn't changed much. Tweaks in physics and reworkings of characters seen in previous installments of the series make returning to the franchise a little jarring, but those who've banked countless hours in Melee will fall into old routines with gusto after an hour or so.

Maybe it's no surprise that the creator of one of the more basically joyous fighters in gaming history is a fan of action figures.
"This is a Micro-man poseable action figure. It's about four inches tall and sold all over Japan," said Super Smash Bros. Brawl director Masahiro Sakurai in his morning Game Developers Conference lecture. The veteran designer then explained the figures were used to illustrate combat animations for the benefit of his design team. Read more »

In a surprising bit of information in an extensive interview between Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and Super Smash Bros. series creator and designer Masahiro Sakurai, it was revealed that Tokyo-based Game Arts, developer of the Lunar and Grandia RPG series, handled a bulk of the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii).
Sakurai retained complete control over the game, apparently even more than he had in the previous two HAL Laboratory-developed entries, and the staffers who worked on Brawl were specially hired for the project. Read more »

While fans may be miffed at the recent delay, they now have little reason to cancel their orders: Nintendo's anticipated party fighter Super Smash Bros. Brawl has earned a perfect 40/40 score from the popular--though often controversial--Japanese magazine Famitsu.
The news also comes with plenty of new images from the Smash Bros. website, courtesy of the game's director Masahiro Sakurai--who, coincidentally, writes a weekly column for Famitsu. Read more »

Captain Olimar, protagonist of Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto-designed Pikmin series, is the latest character to be revealed as a playable character in the upcoming Wii fighter Super Smash Bros. Brawl. As usual, the announcement was made by series designer Masahiro Sakurai on the game's official site. Olimar fights with the aid of his small, plantlike Pikmin companions, which he picks from the ground. A snippet of newly-arranged Pikmin music from Brawl is available on the site.
