BitComposer and GSC feud over S.T.A.L.K.E.R. rights

BitComposer Games, the publisher of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat in the US and Europe, had claimed yesterday it had acquired the license to the franchise and was planning new games. That didn't sit well with developer GSC Game World, which claims it holds the trademark to the games.

S.T.AL.K.E.R. license grabbed by bitComposer

After S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled, former members of developer GSC Game World founded Vostok Games to continue the ideals of the open-world survival shooter series with Survarium. As for the actual S.T.A.L.K.E.R. brand, though, it wasn't quite clear what was happening. Shady rumours said Skyrim developer Bethesda was sniffing around, but publisher bitComposer today announced that it has grabbed the games license and plans to make more S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Rumor: Bethesda gets S.T.A.L.K.E.R. rights

After the cancellation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, members of the dev team at GSC Game World went on to found a new studio and start their own irradiated shooter-RPG, Survarium. Yet, according to a fresh rumour, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series may live on at Bethesda.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vets reveal more of Survarium

After S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was cancelled earlier this year, former members of developer GSC Game World went on to found Vostok Games and announce their own post-apocalyptic shooter. It's now revealed a little more of the free-to-play MMOFPS Survarium, with the first screenshots and a video developer diary going into its story, skill system, and various competitive and co-op modes.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 canceled, ideas funneled into 'Survarium'

Despite assurances of continued development just last month, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been officially canceled. The silver lining to this cloud is that the team is pouring many ideas from the now-canned project into Survarium, a free-to-play MMO that the team calls "more ambitious."

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat 'Complete' Mod Announced, Clear Sky Complete Patched

Prolific S.T.A.L.K.E.R. modder Pavel 'artistpavel' Dolgov has confirmed that Call of Pripyat will receive a version of his popular 'Complete' overhaul mod compilation series.

Saying only "The work on the third and final entry in the Stalker Complete series has begun," Doglov doesn't reveal exactly what the mod will bring but it'll most likely follow in the footsteps of the much-praised Complete mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky, which delivered tweaks and bug fixes plus improved graphics, sounds, music and user interfaces while leaving their gameplay and stories intact. Call of Pripyat Gets New Multiplayer Map

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat developer GSC Game World has released a new official multiplayer map for its PC shooter, available in a 5MB download from FileShack.

Titled 'Close Combat,' the map is set around the Jupiter factory location and is apparently "designed for dynamic play with use of close- and medium-range weapons." It also boasts a store that buys picked-up items when played in team deathmatch mode. Read more »

Having previously revealed that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will be released worldwide in February, publishers bitcomposer and Viva Media have announced that GSC Game World's radioactive open-world PC shooter will arrive in North America on February 2.

Closer in style to the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl than its prequel Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat packs DirectX 11 support--as can be seen in the benchmark. Read more »

GSC Game World's creepy PC shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will be released internationally in February 2010, publisher bitComposer Games announced today.

The news is celebrated with new screenshots showing more of the irradiated Ukranian wasteland as well as one of Pripyat's many downright unsettling lurking horrors.

A 421MB benchmark tool for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (PC) is now available on FileShack, offering insight into how your system will cope with the post-apocalyptic trappings of GSC Game World's DirectX 11-enabled shooter-RPG.

The benchmark cycles through four stages--day, night, rain, and bright sun--with an online leaderboard allowing users to upload and compare their performance scores. Read more »

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is Creepy

The post-apocalyptic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series has always been suitably creepy, and judging by this trailer, the stand-alone sequel Call of Pripyat looks to continue that lineage.

Taking place after the events of Shadow of Chernobyl, Pripyat players will represent the Ukraine Security Service, sent on a mission to discover what exactly went wrong in the Zone. Answer: everything.
