What's the price of nostalgia? $7.99, according to Electronic Arts. The newly rebooted SSX will be getting a blast from the past with its upcoming Mt. Eddie & Classic Characters Bundle Pack.
Mt. Eddie is a brand new "ultra-long" mountain that features 9 new Race and Trick drops, and promises to offer the "huge kickers, ridiculous grinds" of classic SSX games. The mountain even includes two music tracks from the previous games.

Weekend Confirmed goes on the road to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and finds some long-time friends of the show to make it a doubly excellent episode. John Davison of CBSi joins Jeff and Garnett for the show, with 8-4 Play's Mark MacDonald and videogame editorial ninja Billy Berghammer tag-teaming the fourth chair. Along with some of the topics of the day from the conference, the group catches up on a long list of games. Halo 4 and the newly announced Wreckateer highlight take top honors from Microsoft's recent Spring Showcase Event, the first look at Medal of Honor Warfighter also gets its due, SSX springs back to the forefront of the discussion again this week, and there's much more. Special thanks to CBSi and GameSpot for graciously opening the door and allowing Weekend Confirmed the space to record the show again this year.

GDC looms on the horizon next week but there's no quiet before the storm. Christian Spicer and James Stevenson join Jeff and Garnett for a show stacked with great games. SSX, Binary Domain, and Syndicate co-op lead the pack, and there's still plenty more to talk about with the PlayStation Vita. The conversations also cover some of your games that drive you right to the brink but keep you coming back for more and hoped-for inclusions in the rumored to be announced SimCity 5. And that's just some of the talk that races by along the way before Finishing Moves caps it all off.

EA's upcoming SSX reboot has been delayed. Originally scheduled for Valentine's Day 2012, SSX is now slipping past its great-for-marketing date by two weeks.
"We recently decided to take a couple of extra weeks to give our game the final bit of polish we think it deserves," creative director Todd Batty explained. "This means that we won’t be shipping the game to you until Feb. 28 in North America and Mar. 2 in the rest of the world. We hope that given how long you have waited for SSX to come back, you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer."

A developer diary for the upcoming revival of EA's SSX franchise reveals the game's ability to remix music in real-time based on character actions. Whether you're getting big air, grinding, or bailing out, the music in the game will react. According to SSX music producer Freddy Ouano, even music played import into the game from their console will be able to remix on the fly.
As for the game's licensed tracks, the trailer only mentions SSX will include a wide variety ranging from dubstep all the way to metal.

My last experience with SSX was the third game in the series for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, but easing into EA's new game was as smooth as cutting through fresh snow. It feels great and was easy to get back into the flow.
The marquee feature for this generation's SSX revival is EA Canada's use of NASA satellite topographical data to develop real-world mountains within the game. That is stage one of each level's development, gameplay producer Connor Dugan told me. The next stage was "SSX-ifying" each of the locales by adding big jumps, rails, and adding environmental items to differentiate each location at first sight. Alaska, for example, features the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.

Is there a better way to celebrate affection for your significant other than barreling down a mountain on little more than a plank of wood while being pursued by avalanches? Probably. But that's just what folks will be able to this Valentine's Day when EA Canada's SSX finally hits store shelves. A new trailer for the game, called 'Survive It,' accompanies the announcement.

A new trailer for EA Canada's upcoming extreme snowboarding game SSX has hit the slopes, detailing a few of the game's exotic locales and explaining how the game's mountains have been created using a combination of NASA topographical data and the developer's proprietary 'Mountain Man' technology. According to creative director Todd Batty, 'Mountain Man' allows the team to input the latitude and longitude of any real-life mountain range, and the software will render a 3D topographical model of the location in less than 30 seconds.

The upcoming SSX is a huge game, recreating many of the world's most famous mountaintops. However, the developers at EA had an even bigger vision for the game: it would include both snowboarding and skiing.
"Skiing was actually a feature that was a part of our initial design plans," EA's David McDonagh explained. "But it was something that we had to cut awhile back given our production timelines for the game."

QUICKTAKE: I'm not exactly sure why SSX (then called SSX: Deadly Descents) was initially revealed as a dark, gritty take on the snowboarding genre. What I saw at E3 was the SSX we've come to know and love over the years, but on a scale unlike anything the genre has seen before. You'll be able to race and trick down all of the world's major mountains, whilst escaping the wrath of some furious avalanches.

The Dreamcast is almost a dozen years old, but it still has a special place in the hearts of gamers. For those looking to relive old memories, Sega has revealed that a new Dreamcast Collection will be coming on February 22 to PC and Xbox 360 owners. Unfortunately, the game selection may prove underwhelming for some fans.
The Collection only includes a scant four games, all of which are either currently available on Xbox Live Arcade or will be soon. Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are both up for 800 MSP ($10), while Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5: Part 2 are both on the way. PC users might be pleased to find these games available with enhanced graphics, while 360 players could grab the whole set or download only the pieces they want. Read more »
