Microsoft acquires Twisted Pixel

Twisted Pixel, the indie studio behind games including 'Splosion Man, The Maw, and The Gunstringer, is indie no more. Microsoft announced today that it has acquired the Austin-based developer, welcoming it into the Microsoft Studios family.

Capcom Accused of Ripping-off 'Splosion Man in 'MaXplosion' [Update: Capcom Responds]

[Update] Capcom has provided us with its official statement on the topic:

While Twisted Pixel did have discussions with our console game team about publishing 'Splosion Man' on game consoles, Capcom Mobile is a different division of Capcom with separate offices and as such, had no prior knowledge of any meetings between the console game team and Twisted Pixel. 'MaXplosion' was developed independently by Capcom Mobile. Nonetheless, we are saddened by this situation and hope to rebuild the trust of our fans and friends in the gaming community. Read more »

Comic Jumper E3 Media Blast: Trailers, Screenshots, 'Splosion Man DLC

Indie developer Twisted Pixel has unleashed its E3 media blast, sending out a gameplay trailer and a round of screenshots for Comic Jumper as well as word that the comic book beat 'em up also unlocks bonus levels for its explosive platformer 'Splosion Man.

The lengthy gameplay demonstration trailer is set during the Silver Age--one of several comic book eras Captain Smiley will jump into--and shows our hero's struggles with the draconian Comics Obscenity Commission, not to mention an animated dinosaur skeleton. Other styles confirmed include parodies of Conan and the weird world of Manga. Read more »

As a platformer, 'Splosion Man (XBLA) is a blood relative of Sonic the Hedgehog. But as a relative, 'Splosion Man is the freakish uncle that your mother never let you talk to.

Running about levels, the 'Splosion Man fans out his arms into an airplane. He drops his jaw, and lowers his arms like a neandrathal, and moans like an idiot. And then he explodes.

Twisted Pixel offers this trailer as a first glimpse at its quirky 2.5D XBLA platformer 'Splosion Man, which stars a man that jumps across platforms by exploding himself. He's not very bright, that 'Splosion Man.

The developer notes that the title will ship with 50 single-player levels--including "highly entertaining and unconventional boss battles"--and 50 unique four-player co-op levels. No release date yet.

Twisted Pixel Games, developers of The Maw, are today very proud to announce 'Splosion Man, a 2.5D action platformer with a terrifying eponymous hero.

We were pretty disappointed to receive the announcement for 'Splosion Man yesterday as we figured it was probably just another too-rad-to-be-true April Fools' joke. Nope.
