September NPD: Halo Reach Reigns; PlayStation Move, Metroid: Other M and Dead Rising 2 Debut Strong

Although they will no longer provide any of those pesky "numbers" we all like so much, the NPD Group has released its report for the month of September. As Microsoft announced earlier, Halo: Reach topped the charts, selling 3.3 million units in its first month of sale.

Capcom's Dead Rising 2 took the third spot across three platforms, despite launching on September 28 in North America. EA Sports saw three of its titles land in September's top ten, with Madden NFL 11, NHL 11, and FIFA Soccer 11 invading the month's top five sellers. New exclusive titles Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for the PSP and Nintendo Wii's Metroid: Other M also had strong debuts. Note: The NPD Group no longer lists software as individual platforms. Sales for all platforms will now be combined when listed in the "Top Ten" and no figures will be released to the public from the NPD Group. Read more »

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Dev Would Like to Do a Game Featuring 2099 or Noir Spidey

Beenox creative director Thomas Wilson would like to do another Spider-Man game after Shattered Dimensions, featuring either the 2099 or Noir incarnations of Spider-Man--two of the playable webslingers in that game--according to Joystiq.

This is, of course, up to publisher Activision and will certainly depend on the performance of Shattered Dimensions at retail. For more information on that game, read Xav's preview from Microsoft's X10 event last week. Read more »

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Hands-on Preview

Although its critical response was lukewarm, I rather enjoyed Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. After the critical flop that was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (compared to the original) and the game based on the terrible Spider-Man 3 film, I was ready to hang up my webshooters and walk away from Peter Parker's world.

When I first saw the concept behind Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions I was cautiously optimistic. Taking Spider-Man through his multiple comic-book universes seems like a good way to keep the game fresh throughout its campaign. Although Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions -- developed by Beenox -- does away with the open-world concept, the design presents a variety of locales in which to fight crime. And each era's version of Spider-man has a new set of abilities to play with. Read more »

Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions Trailer is Villainous

A new "Villains" trailer for the ultimate web-slinger's upcoming multi-dimensional adventure is here, spotlighting (as one would expect) some of the game's bad guys, as well as some of the titular, inter-dimensional locales.

The action title briefly highlights the ability to help Spidey dispatch some of the game's miscreants with some old-fashioned, first-person face-punching. Goblin, Hammerhead, and Kraven all look poised to give Spiderman more than just a stern talking-to when the Beenox-developed Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions hits store shelves in the latter half of 2010.
