Warner Bros Interactive has laid off about 25 employees across its three Seattle-based studios--Monolith Productions (F.E.A.R. 2), Snowblind Studios (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance) and Surreal Software (The Suffering)--Shacknews has learned.

Update: Raven has confirmed the layoffs, issuing an official statement: "With the recent completion of both Wolverine, based on the summer blockbuster movie, and Wolfenstein, the next chapter of the famed franchise, Raven Software is slightly reducing its workforce to better reflect the studio's upcoming slate."

With a spotty record of movie tie-in videogames, Marvel is hoping the well-received X-Men Origins: Wolverine becomes a turning point.
"We are not doing movie-based games anymore," Marvel digital media VP Ira Rubenstein told Joystiq, before restating: "Actually, wait... we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that." Read more »

A downloadable expansion pack for Backbone's neon-tastic Xbox Live Arcade revival Space Invaders Extreme will arrive tomorrow, June 17, during the night-time hours.
With the download priced at 240 Microsoft Points ($3), publisher Taito tells us that it will pack three new stages, new enemies and new bosses, along with "emulators of the original black-and-white Space Invaders and 8-bit color Space Invaders 2." Read more »

A downloadable demo of Raven's film-inspired beat 'em up X-Men Origins: Wolverine is now available for Xbox Live Gold members via the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Hyped by its developer as "the movie game that finally does not suck," the title launched alongside the theatrical flick last Friday in PC, PS2, PS3, 360, Wii, DS and PSP form.

Backbone's Taito-commissioned Xbox Live Arcade rendition of Space Invaders Extreme will arrive next Wednesday, May 6 at 800 MS Points ($10), Taito announced today.
The neon-heavy downloadable shooter, meant to celebrate Space Invaders' 30th anniversary, packs super-sized enemies and trippy tunes along with various competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes for up to four online or offline players.

Publisher Activision has released a new trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, showcasing some of the cameos in the game based off the comic-inspired film.
Developed by Raven, the brutal beat 'em arrives alongside the movie on May 1, coming in PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PSP flavors.

Claiming that Raven's upcoming licensed beat-em-up X-Men Origins: Wolverine is going to be the best Wolverine game ever made isn't saying much.
Luckily, Raven also claims that every other video game is like a pansy. So unless you like playing pansies, you'd probably better pre-order Wolverine.

These screenshots from Raven's upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in fail to represent the game accurately in lacking Wolverine's trademark animalistic roaring. While viewing, we ask that you lean back, concentrate, and try to imagine the sound of a dying animal or two. That's it. Now you've got the Wolverine experience.
The game is set for a May 1 release on PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP, GPS, RFK and CCP. Some of those may not be actual game platforms.

Taito's celebration of Space Invaders' 30th Anniversary continues in these new screenshots from the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade download Space Invaders Extreme.
Developed by the folks at Backbone Entertainment, the Xbox 360 version of the game--Nintendo DS and PSP editions arrived last summer--adds four-player competitive and cooperative multiplayer to the mash-up of classic stylings and modern gameplay.
