No Plans for Super Street Fighter IV PC; Piracy Blamed

Producer Yoshinori Ono has revealed that there are currently no plans to bring Super Street Fighter IV to the PC due to piracy in an interview with 4Gamer (via Andriasang).

Ono does realize that piracy of the PC version gave the game a wider spread, but Capcom could not continue with the title being "free" in certain territories. A PC release wasn't ruled out, but it would hinge on better anti-piracy protection. Read more »

New Characters for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade?

A picture surfaced last night on Twitter (via Gootecks) showing what appears to be the character select screen with two placeholder silhouettes from an arcade location test of Super Street Fighter IV.

The possibility of new characters or "moves" was discussed by producer Yoshinori Ono in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, but Capcom would not comment on the rumor. It is believed that any new characters would be paid DLC for the console versions of the game. Read more »

Super Street Fighter 4 Could Get Balance Changes via Patch Following Arcade Release

With development continuing on the arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV, the door is open for any additions, tweaks, or changes made for that release to journey to the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions via patch or DLC.

Producer Yoshinori Ono, who is scheduled to announce his next game at Comic-Con on July 24, discussed the possibility of patching the home versions with Famitsu (translation by Andriasang), saying "If it's a tuning update similar to the June 15 update, I believe we'd be able to offer it for free. However, if it's the kind of update that adds new moves, it's possible that it could be paid." Read more »

G4 to Stream Evo Fighting Game Tournament Series; Seth Killian "Jumping Around Like a Schoolgirl"

Capcom, Evo, and G4 have just announced that G4tv.com will stream 45 hours of live coverage via Stickam from the Evolution 2010 Championship Series of fighting game tournaments, which takes place next weekend from July 9 to 11 in Las Vegas, NV.

Now, selfishly, I must announce that this is incredibly awesome as I initially pitched the idea of G4 coverage to Capcom and Seth Killian back in January while checking out an early build of Super Street Fighter IV when I was still with G4. I attended Evo 2009 and even competed and saw first hand how exciting the series is. Of course, I must give it up to G4, Capcom, Evo, and Stickam for getting the deal done and for bringing full stream coverage and television coverage to the fighting community. Read more »

Capcom Reports 73% Drop in Profits Last Year

Capcom's annual financial results reveal the developer and publisher's profits dropped 73.1%--2,167 million Yen, or $23.5 million US--in the past year as compared to 2009.

Capcom explains that Bionic Commando, Dark Void and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles "underperformed their sales and remained weak" while the postponing of Lost Planet 2 and Super Street Fighter IV to its 2011 financial year didn't help either. Read more »

Super Street Fighter 4 Review

The follow-up to last year's hit fighting game Street Fighter IV has finally arrived, bringing 10 new characters, a host of new online modes, and balance changes. Coupled with all of that is a reduced price-tag coming in at $40 for the PS3 or Xbox 360.

All of the new characters are fun and fit in nicely. Only two are completely new, Juri and Hakan, with the rest returning from previous titles. Damage has been reduced across the board leading to longer battles and many of the new characters find success in being offensive leading to less turtling. Every character is unlocked from the beginning. Read more »

Evening Reading: Who Are You People?

Last night, I was playing some Super Street Fighter IV multiplayer with a fellow member of the press until legions of people began joining our lobby. I don't know if these are people playing downloaded copies or lucky owners who found a store breaking street date, but it was surprising how many people are already playing this online.

Now, to dive into Monster Hunter Tri.
