EA releases its own 'indie' bundle

It's not a move one would expect from a monolithic publisher, but Electronic Arts has released its own "indie bundle" featuring six games from developers under its EA Partners label. The move incited mixed reactions, with some questioning if anything from EA can be considered "indie."

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has revealed that the sidescrolling, brawler/shooter/knife-in-the-facer XBLA title Shank is this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week.

Starting today, Shank is available for 800MS Points ($10), a savings of 33% off its original price of 1200MS Points ($15). Like all other Xbox Live weekly deals, the offer is only available to Xbox Live Gold members. Read more »

Shank and DeathSpank Now Available on PC

Electronic Arts has released Shank and DeathSpank, previously only available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, on the PC.

Both were released through the EA Partners publishing program. Shank was developed by Klei Entertainment and DeathSpank was created by Hothead Games.The games are now available through Steam and support Steamworks features like Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Leaderboards. Like the console versions, both titles support local-only co-op. Read more »

Deathspank Coming to PC on Oct. 26; Mac OSX in the Works

PC gamers left out when Hothead's humorous action RPG Deathspank debuted on the Xbox 360 and PS3 earlier this year, your calls have been heard. Today the developer revealed the first game in the series will arrive for the PC on October 26 for $14.99.

Pre-ordering the game on Steam will get 10% knocked off that price, bringing it down to $13.49. Or, if you're in a bargaining sort of mood, there's the cleverly named 'Shank and Spank' bundle--which pairs DeathSpank with Klei Entertainment's Shank. Steam pre-orders for the bundle brings the combined price down 15% ($25.48 total). A Mac OSX version of Deathspank is also in the works but no release date for it was provided. Read more »

Report: Microsoft Sees Record XBLA Sales in August

Forecasting & Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE) is reporting that Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade enjoyed its best month to date in August, built on the strength of the Summer of Arcade promotion.

According to the report, Microsoft brought in $17.5 million in August 2010 over $16.5 million in August 2009, which was the second year of the Summer of Arcade promotion. The report presents a top 10 list of games sold, ranked by revenue generated, and includes the total number of copies purchased. Note that some titles were not included in the Summer of Arcade promotion or were released before August. Read more »

Xbox Live August Schedule Brings Shank, Scott Pilgrim and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero to the Arcade

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has released the Live Marketplace content schedule for the remainder of August.

Although the dates and prices have previously been reported, it's a good reminder that Shank and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero are launching this month alongside the Xbox 360 version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Shank hitting PSN on August 24, XBLA on August 25, Priced at $15 [Update]

[Update: 4:35pm] According to the official Shank website, the PC version of Shank is still in development and will arrive in Fall 2010. As for the game's newly revealed co-op "mission," the blog mentions that Shank actually includes a "local co-op campaign." The co-op will be separate from the original game and tell the backstory of Shank.

Stab with Shank in Late Summer

Klei Enteratinment's exceedingly awesome side-scrolling stabber-shooter Shank has long carried a summer release, and with that window approaching, the developer has gotten a bit more specific as to when the downloadable tale of stylish revenge--coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--will be exacted.

"Late summer," Klei co-founder and Shank co-creator Jamie Cheng told us when asked about its release window during E3 2010. "We're just finishing up the game now. I can't really give a more firm date [as that depends on testing and certification.]" Read more »

Shank E3 2010 Trailer Shows Animated Gore

With E3 set to kick off next week, early trailers are always welcome. As you go into the weekend, watch this awesome trailer for Klei Entertainment and EA Partner's Shank.

The game, set in a "stylized, modern-Western setting... tells a classic betrayal story directed through a sophisticated cinematic lens, with addictive action gameplay found in classic 2D side-scrolling games." The story is being written by Marianne Krawczyk, who wrote the God of War games. Read more »
