Thanks to the ruling of a Texas district court judge, Section 8 developer TimeGate Studios won't be forced to pay millions in allegedly misused development funds to publisher SouthPeak, nor will SouthPeak retain a permanent license for the Section 8 IP and its sequels. The dispute originated way back in 2009, when Timegate sued SouthPeak for allegedly embezzling royalties by altering revenue reports. At the time, SouthPeak counter-sued, claiming that $7.5M in funding had been "misused" by the developer, in addition to $2.5M in development costs TimeGate failed to provide.

It's taken quite a long time for Section 8: Prejudice to come out on PlayStation 3. The $15 online shooter made its debut on Xbox Live in April. So, why the long delay for the PS3 version? Bryan Perez, Community Manager of TimeGate Studios, says the studio needed to "take the time to optimize the game for the platform."
Of course, people don't usually like being late to the party without a gesture of goodwill. So, the PS3 version of Section 8: Prejudice will debut with some free DLC. For the first week after the game launches on PSN, all purchases will include the Blitz Armor Pack and Overdrive Map Pack for free. That's about $7 worth of DLC included with the standard $15 purchase.

TimeGate's $15 downloadable shooter Section 8: Prejudice is getting a new $4 map pack and a free new multiplayer mode this month, the developer has announced.
Like the first map pack, the new 'Frontier Colonies' downloadable content will add two new maps, in the form of the arid Desolation and forested Overseer. It'll be released for Xbox Live Arcade on July 13, priced at 320 Microsoft Points ($4), and for PC on July 27 at $3.99. Read more »

Section 8: Prejudice has just gotten a new game mode fueled by players' bloodlust. "Assault Mode" is a team-versus-team control point mode with a time limit. Developer TimeGate says it encourages cooperation between the classes to finish your objectives fast. The mode is now included and unlocked, so no DLC is required.
The Assault mode was set to unlock when the PC and Xbox 360 audiences scored a combined 10 million kills. The impressive feat happened in just over two weeks, so now current and new players alike can enjoy the fruits of their murderous labor. Read more »

Section 8: Prejudice is barely a week old, and already TimeGate has issued its first title update for Xbox Live Arcade. The patch addresses a variety of stability bugs, along with usability tweaks to several of the menus.
The team is also using hot-fixes on their end to respond to community feedback, allowing two-player Ranked Swarm matches, and increasing the chance that you'll get placed with friends or Xbox Live Party members when the game auto-balances the teams. Read more »

Section 8: Prejudice for the Xbox 360 lets you play online using standard Microsoft servers like any other Xbox Live Arcade game, but if you're extremely devoted to your Section 8 experience, you can now rent dedicated servers. TimeGate Studios announced a partnership with GameServers to let players check out dedicated servers for up to 32 players. You can make the servers ranked or unranked, and customize gameplay settings, maps, modes, and difficulty levels. The feature is an unusual one for consoles, since dedicated servers are usually PC-only, or tailored by the publishers on consoles. Read more »

TimeGate Studios' Section 8: Prejudice, the follow-up to the original 2009 multiplayer-focused shooter, will debut at the delightfully low price-point of $14.99 when it is released early next year.
This pricing has been set across all three of the games platforms (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360) and the game will be sold digitally. On the PC, you'll at least have the choice between Steam and Games for Windows as your virtual place of purchasing, though I wouldn't rule out other stores. Read more »
