Saints Row: The Third has about 40 weeks of DLC planned

We reported back in July that THQ has big post-release plans for their next installment of open-wold urban mayhem, amounting to "nearly a year" of DLC. CEO Brian Farrell recently reaffirmed the plan, though with a bit more specificity. At the recent Cloud Gaming USA conference, Farrell noted that Saints Row: The Third already has somewhere in the neighborhood of forty weeks worth of downloadable content planned.

Saint's Row: The Third plan includes 'nearly a year' of DLC

During an investor relations call, THQ chief executive Brian Farrell stated that the publisher is looking to increase post-launch revenues for its core titles by 20 percent.

Part of the plan, Farrell said, is to plan an aggressive campaign for post-launch content for its core titles. The first title slated to follow THQ's new digital direction is Saint's Row: The Third. "The idea is to really drive the key titles," Farrell noted.

Saints Row: The Third offers pre-order DLC, teases 'Season Pass'

Saints Row: The Third offers pre-order DLC, teases 'Season Pass'

THQ and Volition's upcoming open-world game, Saints Row: The Third, is going to have a lot of downloadable content. So much so that THQ is offering a DLC "Season Pass," not unlike Mortal Kombat and LA Noire. The Season Pass will give access to three additional downloadable mission packs and is valued at "more than $20." Right now, the only way to get access to the Pass is by pre-ordering the game on THQ's online store. The first 3,000 purchases will get a voucher for free.

While it is a tempting offer, note that one-day shipping from THQ's store to the U.S. costs $23.90--more than the cost of the Season Pass. Read more »

Saints Row 3 getting pre-launch character creator

Saints Row 3 getting pre-launch character creator

Saints Row 3 -- excuse me, Saints Row: The Third -- will let you toy with its character creator before the game hits this holiday season. Publisher THQ and developer Volition announced the Saints Row Initiation Station, to be released on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

With the Initiation Station, you can create your best fashion disaster and share it with friends. Plus, you can download other peoples' characters and tweak them, or collaborate on a co-op set. THQ was about as vague as vague can be on a release window for the Initiation Station, so just expect it sometime before Saints Row hits. Read more »

Saints Row: The Third due holiday 2011

Saints Row: The Third due holiday 2011

Though we've known for years that Volition, Inc. is working on a third Saints Row, it's only now been formally announced by publisher THQ. Saints Row: The Third, as it's called, is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this holiday season.

"Saints Row: The Third puts you on top of the world, right at the beginning of the game, with all the perks that go along with being the head of an elite criminal organization," THQ core games executive VP Danny Bilson said in the announcement. "There's no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm." Red Faction: Armageddon Pushed to May 2011; Saint's Row 3 Arriving Next Fall

Sorry revolutionists, you're going to have to wait a little longer until you can escape underground and decimate its thriving civilization.

In an investor release, THQ revealed Red Faction: Armageddon has been pushed to May 2011. Originally the shooter was scheduled to arrive in March 2011. No specifics for the delay were mentioned; however, we suspect it has something to do with THQ core game VP Danny Bilson's "ship when things are ready" policy. Read more »

Saints Row 3DS is Also XBLA Game, Marketing Tool for Saint's Row 3

Much like Red Faction is getting an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game prior to the release of the next major entry in the series, Saints Row 3 will get the same treatment with an XBLA game, Saints Row: Drive By. Turns out, this is the same Saint's Row game announced for Nintendo's new 3DS handheld.

"The interesting thing about the [3DS] game is we were already making it," explains THQ vice president of core games Danny Bilson in an interview with IndustryGamers. "We were already making it as our Xbox Live game and in 3D also. It's designed for 3D already. So the 3DS version is an incremental cost. It's not a big startup cost." Read more »
