The promised free-to-play option for Cryptic's superhero MMORPG Champions Online will launch on January 25, it was revealed today.
Free-to-play users will be able to play for as long as they please without buying the game or subscribing. However, they'll face numerous restrictions and will have to pay if they want to experience certain content. Those who choose to pay the $14.99 monthly 'Gold' subscription fee won't face these limitations. As reported late last month, the DC Universe Online beta is set to end with a large scale match of fisticuffs between heroes and villains. The DC Universe Online beta is available on the PC and PlayStation 3 and will come to a close by showing players what "would've happened" had gamers followed in the footsteps of the game's intro cinematic. After suffering at the hands of the nefarious industry villain, Doctor Delay, Sony Online Entertainment revealed a new release date for its superhero-fueled MMO.
DC Universe Online is now set to arrive for the PC and PlayStation 3 on January 11 in North America and on January 14 in Europe, SOE confirmed to IGN in an interview.
