Insomniac: Resistance could go to another developer

Resistance 3 is about two weeks away, and it apparently could mark Insomniac's last entry in the franchise -- for the time being, at least. Creative director Marcus Smith says the studio is branching out with Overstrike, its first multiplatform title, so the Resistance series torch may be picked up by another studio.

With Sony Bend's Resistance: Retribution (PSP) now at North American retailers, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment has paired with community site Global Gaming to throw an online multiplayer tournament for the portable third-person shooter.

Registration opens today and runs until May 10, 2009. Two ladders, 2v2 and 4v4, are open. Combined, the two brackets offer over $25,000 in prizes for U.S. gamers. Read more »

Resistance: Retribution Demo Available with Pre-order

Sony has announced that a demo of Resistance: Retribution (PSP) is now available for fans that pre-order the game through a specific list of retailers.

The participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, or Game Crazy. After pre-ordering the game, the demo can then be downloaded from the PlayStation Store with a voucher code.

Resistance PSP Hooks Up to PS3 Resistance 2: Gains New Mode, DualShock 3 Controls

Sony's Bend Studio, developer of the PSP shooter Resistance: Retribution, borrows more than the name from Insomniac's PS3 shooter series. The handheld game can be modified by Insomniac's upcoming Resistance 2 if connected to a PlayStation 3.

"Once you connect to [Resistance 2], Resistance: Retribution becomes 'Infected,'" exclaims a presentation slide from the Tokyo Game Show appearing on the PlayStation Blog. The Infected version of Retribution grants an alternate storyline, health regeneration, underwater breathing, and weapons borrowed from the PS3 game. Read more »

A PSP Reistance title developed by Sony Bend was today revealed at Sony's E3 event.

The title utilizes a third-person behind-the-back and over-the-shoulder view to recreate the first-person action of Insomniac's PlayStation 3 entries.

Dubbed Resistance: Retribution, the game is expected in spring 2009.
