Insomniac finished with Resistance franchise

We already knew that Insomniac is taking a step back from the Resistance franchise. With Resistance 3 in the can and the studio setting sights on its multiplatform project Overstrike, the studio seemed ready to move on. Now CEO Ted Price has confirmed it with a statement that leaves no room for misunderstanding.

Resistance 3 'Brutality' DLC coming today, features Mastodon

Resistance 3 'Brutality' DLC coming today, features Mastodon

Resistance 3 is getting more DLC "soon." The upcoming "Brutality" pack is set in Wales, and adds another horde-infested survival mode to the Insomniac-developed FPS. The add-on will pit you against waves of enemies, and gives you a pretty awesome sledgehammer to fend them off (pictured, above). While this DLC seems rather predictable, one new feature is not: the Brutality Pack includes three songs from Mastodon's latest album, The Hunter.

Weekend Confirmed 80 - Battlefield 3 beta, Gears of War 3, Resistance 3

We didn’t need the official beginning of fall to know the season had arrived. Games that promise to challenge for Game of the Year honors are hitting over the next several weeks and Weekend Confirmed will be digging into them in earnest. Garnett returns from his expedition to Japan just in time to catch up with the Gears of War 3 discussion to get things started. A nasty bout of the flu knocked Xav out this week but Jeff holds things down with our special guest James Stevenson of Insomniac Games. Naturally, there’s some Resistance 3 talk, but much more as well including the Battlefield 3 beta, Burnout Crash, and yes, Jeff braves the waters to talk some about Kirby. With the trifecta of EA Sports games out we also look at how the annual cycle could be improved. And of course we’ve got all the latest gaming news as well. We tweaked the format a little for this eightieth show, so please, let us know what you think in the official Shacknews.com comments.

Resistance 3 review

Resistance 3 review

After the mixed reception of Resistance 2, a lot rests on the shoulders of Resistance 3. As the conclusion to Insomniac's sci-fi trilogy, its success will dictate if we remember the sci-fi shooter trilogy as a classic. Developer Insomniac Games, aware of the gravity of its situation, invested a longer development cycle on the game. The effort shows, addressing prior criticisms and reflecting the skill a great team has when given the time to perfect their craft.

Resistance 3 dev considered return of R2 hero

Resistance 3 dev considered return of R2 hero

The upcoming Resistance 3 stars Joseph Capelli, but Insomniac briefly considered bringing back the hero from the older games. Nathan Hale, the protagonist whose story saw an abrupt end in Resistance 2, could've made a comeback. Ultimately, the team couldn't find a way that didn't strike them as cheesy.

Resistance 2 story spoilers follow.

PlayStation 3DTV gets Resistance 3 again (as pre-order bonus)

One of the stranger announcements at Sony's E3 press conference this year was its plan to develop a PlayStation-branded 3DTV that features an exclusive "SimulView" mode that enables two players to play full-screen multiplayer games together. The 24" screen retails for $500, making it an affordable entry point into 3D.

Oddly, Sony replaced the originally bundled game--Resistance 3--with the less buzz-worthy MotorStorm Apocalypse. Today, the company has announced that it will be including Resistance 3, in addition to MotorStorm, for all pre-orders.

Insomniac: Resistance could go to another developer

Insomniac: Resistance could go to another developer

Resistance 3 is about two weeks away, and it apparently could mark Insomniac's last entry in the franchise -- for the time being, at least. Creative director Marcus Smith says the studio is branching out with Overstrike, its first multiplatform title, so the Resistance series torch may be picked up by another studio.

Resistance 3 map 'Alice Springs' revealed

The fourth of the "major 16-player maps" for Resistance 3 has been revealed, bringing the raging war from the United States to Australia.

Alice Springs, Australia, takes place in a desert town in the Northern Territory. According to Resistance lore, Australia is the site of a "gigantic refugee camp" dubbed Avalon One. Now, the "safe haven" has been overrun by Chimera and the small town is home to aggressive, close-combat battles.

Resistance 3 goes gold, getting day-one patch

The patch will bring "updates and tweaks" to the game, most likely to fix any problems that crop up during the beta test.
