MobyGames Classic: Resident Evil community stories

On Wednesday we announced 1996's survival-horror pioneer Resident Evil was the next addition our growing list of video game classics, presented by MobyGames.com.

Resident Evil caused quite a stir in the gaming community when it was released in 1996, delivering a tense combination of exploration, action, and scares. It served up many of the core attributes that still serve as the foundation of many of today's more modern and refined horror-driven games, and created a rich world of conspiracies and corrupt corporations and a cast of memorable characters that made their way into numerous sequels on multiple platforms. The original tale was later given an updated treatment for the GameCube, and the franchise continues to see new entries by developer Capcom.

Resident Evil trailer celebrates fifteen years of history

Resident Evil trailer celebrates fifteen years of history

It's been fifteen years since the Resident Evil series first began giving gamers chills, when the first game launched on U.S. soil in 1996. Since then, the series has jumped to multiple platforms, introduced us to a wide variety of characters, and remained adamant that the best aim came from planting your feet firmly on the ground.

Capcom celebrated its longstanding series--first envisioned by game director Shinji Mikami--by releasing a trailer featuring clips over the long journey. Included in the trailer are short glimpses of the upcoming HD re-releases of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X and Resident Evil 4, as well as new footage of the Slant Six-developed side story, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. No details are offered on the supposed game codenamed 'Resident Evil: Raccoon City' beyond it being "team-based." This could indicate a multiplayer slant or simply that it's squad-based, like the SOCOM series. Read more »

Savage Cycles Building Resident Evil Motorcycles

Related Topics – Resident Evil, screenshots, Capcom

In one of the most simultaneously bizarre and awesome licensing deals ever, Capcom has teamed up with custom motorcycle outfit Savage Cycles and production company Hollywood, Inc. to build a limited number of licensed Resident Evil-themed choppers.

According to the Capcom-Unity Blog, the impulse was to create a bike that would be "...a post-apocalyptic zombie murdering machine, just the sort of thing a heavily-armed member of STARS would jump onto and blast into the middle of a runaway zombie crisis," and to achieve the "ultimate fusion of survival horror and outlaw bike."
