Resident Evil 6, DmC below expectations, Capcom cites 'excessive outsourcing'

Capcom recently cited its earnings for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, and fell short of its targets. The company's analysis concluded that this was due to a drop in quality due to overseas outsourcing, and that poor retail sales ended up hurting its digital content projections by extension.

Next Resident Evil to be more 'focused'

Capcom 'analyzing' Resident Evil 6's disappointing sales

Capcom 'analyzing' Resident Evil 6's disappointing sales

With five million copies shipped so far, Resident Evil 6 is by no means a failure for Capcom. However, it has repeatedly been called a disappointment by the publisher, who expected the game to ship upwards of seven million units. What could account for such a sharp decline from its initially projected sales?

"We are currently analyzing the causes, which involve our internal development operations and sales operations. We have not yet reached a clear conclusion," Capcom told investors.

'Too many' Resident Evil games in recent years, says producer

'Too many' Resident Evil games in recent years, says producer

Like zombies in a shopping mall, Resident Evil has been crowding the market in the last couple of years. Resident Evil 6 marked the fourth release in only two years, after ORC, Revelations, and Mercenaries 3D. Capcom seems to recognize that perhaps flooding the market isn't the best of ideas, at least if recent comments from Revelations producer Masachika Kawata are any indication.

When Resident Evil 6 shambles onto PCs on March 22, it will pack an extra punch. We knew it would be getting the "No Hope" campaign difficulty out of the box, but today Capcom announced that it will also tick up the toughness meter on the Mercenaries mode.

Resident Evil 6's second title update continues to tweak the game

Resident Evil 6's second title update continues to tweak the game

Resident Evil 6 is the game Capcom keeps on trying to fix, in light of lower than expected sales. The last title update tweaked the game's camera--one of the biggest flaws of the original game. The next title update adds a new "QTE assist" feature for all difficulties, declawing one of the game's most annoying gameplay features.

32-bit costumes coming to Resident Evil 6

32-bit costumes coming to Resident Evil 6

This may be the single best thing about Resident Evil 6. You'll be able to unlock new costumes for Resident Evil 6, inspired by the classic PS1-era games. Ada, Chris, Leon, and more can don blocky polygonal wares as they run around the campaign. And in a rather non-Capcom move, these alternate outfits can be unlocked for free.

Resident Evil 6 patch adds adjustable camera

Resident Evil 6 patch adds adjustable camera

We didn't like Resident Evil 6. And one of the reasons was the game's much-too-close camera. Your character takes up so much screen real estate, it's often impossible to see what's in front of your character. Taking cover only exacerbates the problem, rendering the feature nearly useless.

While the game has already sold millions of copies, Capcom isn't ignoring criticism. In fact, an upcoming patch promises to fix this critical issue by adding a wider camera option.

Yes, Resident Evil 6 has some DLC tucked away on-disc. But, Capcom is making that content available for free next week.

A title update coming "soon" will add two new pieces of content to Capcom's zombie shooter. The patch will add a new "No Hope" difficulty mode to the game, aptly described as "super hard." In addition, a new co-op partner will be added for the Ada Wong campaign (currently single-player only).
