Next week's round of new video game releases is light on retail offerings but thankfully digital distribution picks up the slack. PC rules the roost, with goodies including reverse-tower defense Anomaly: Warzone Earth and Battlefield Play4Free, the free-to-play version of Battlefield 2.

Red Faction: Battlegrounds has been given a release date and price, reports Joystiq. Word came via e-mail from Sony to PlayStation Network users, stating that the game would hit the PlayStation Network in North America and Europe on April 5, for $9.99. Read more »

THQ has just revealed another downloadable title that will tie into one of its major retail franchises. In a panel during GDC Europe, THQ Digital Warrington creative director Don Whiteford announced his studio's first title would be Red Faction: Battlegrounds, the downloadable title for the XBLA and PSN that will lead into THQ's Red Faction: Armageddon. The game, which is being built at the studio formerly known as Juice Games, has a core development team of four people, Gamasutra reports. Read more »
