Weekend Confirmed 90 - Miyamoto, Live update, Rayman Origins

Weekend Confirmed 90 - Miyamoto, Live update, Rayman Origins

The Weekend Confirmed crew starts getting into the holiday spirit as Jeff, "Indie" Jeff, and Christian sit down with Garnett for this show. The buzz around misinterpretations of Miyamoto's plans for the future and the new Xbox Live dashboard and its mobile apps kicks things off. We know Jeff loves loving things, and it's obvious he's found a new object of his affection in Rayman Origins. No less fun, but definitely fun of a different sort, Saints Row the Third has Christian enjoying the freedom to fool around without feeling like he's missing out on anything. And of course there's your comments and stories, more news, and Finishing Moves to complete the package.

How Beyond Good & Evil 2 made Rayman Origins possible

How Beyond Good & Evil 2 made Rayman Origins possible

Rayman Origins is one of the most gorgeous 2D games ever created. The "UbiArt" framework used to create the game produced spectacular results, and surprisingly, was born from technology developed for the perpetually in-limbo Beyond Good & Evil 2.

"It was a continuation of what we were doing with Beyond Good & Evil 2 -- a visual pattern generating-based engine," Ubisoft designer Michel Ancel said.

Rayman Origins review

Rayman Origins review

Last I remember of Rayman, his series had been taken over by furry critters called Rabbids. However, with the Rabbids successfully spun off into their own series, it's time for Rayman to jump back into the starring role of his own series again. Rayman: Origins returns to his early days for a fun and challenging platforming experience.

Rayman Origins demo coming next week

There's one thing we can all agree on: Rayman Origins is gorgeous. But, how does it play? It was one of my favorite games at E3, and now you'll be able to try it for yourself with a free downloadable demo.

Ubisoft has announced that the demo will be available on November 8th on PlayStation Network, November 9th on Xbox Live.

Rayman Origins' UbiArt tech to be free

Rayman Origins' UbiArt tech to be free

Series creator Michel Ancel wants UbiArt, the tech behind the impressive-looking 2D game Rayman Origins, to be free for anyone who wants to use it. Develop reports that Ancel is aiming to make the UbiArt Framework open-source in the near future. "UbiArt has been built to be shared," he said.

"It won't be like the other game technologies, which are often just locked away," said Ancel. "If the guys who invented the paintbrush only kept it for themselves then fine art [would be in a sorry state], it would be ephemeral. So yes, I want [UbiArt] to be open source, I want it to go out and be shared and evolved."

Rayman Origins Unveiled

The origins of Michel Ancel's platforming hero will be revealed this year in new a episodic title for "HD consoles," Ubisoft announced at its E3 press conference, titled simply Rayman Origins.

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 seem likely release platforms as the only "HD consoles," a requirement Ubisoft seeks "because the game already runs in this incredible image format and this really highlights the artist's work." The company does, however, note that "This doesn't prevent us from thinking about other consoles but we are a small team so we need to set priorities." Read more »
