Pre-order bonuses don't surprise anyone these days. Even console-specific retailer-exclusive pre-order add-ons are somewhat commonplace. But, there's something quite odd about Rayman Legends.
Pre-ordering the game at GameStop will entitle you to get a console-specific bonus costume for use in the game. For example, for Xbox 360, you'll get to see Rayman dressed in a Splinter Cell-themed costume (above). And on PlayStation 3, you'll get Rayman dressed in an Assassin's Creed 4-themed costume. However, on Wii U, you'll get Barbara dressed in an Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation costume--a game that's a Vita exclusive.

Update: A new press release from Ubisoft has changed the date to September 3, not August 27 as the earlier Online Challenges release stated.
Oh, how you tutted and sighed when Ubisoft delayed the Wii U edition of Rayman Legends into September just so it could launch alongside its newly-announced Xbox 360 and PS3 siblings. The monsters! But hey, good news. You won't need to wait too far into September as Ubi has now said the delightful jump 'em up sequel will launch on September 3.

The delay of Rayman Legends caused no small bit of consternation among eager fans, especially once it was revealed that the game hadn't suffered any Wii U development setbacks. The sole reason for the delay, according to Ubisoft, was to have a same-day release on multiple platforms. Some of the development team, including creator Michel Ancel, has now shown support for a set of protestors.

In spite of being nearly complete with the Wii U version of Rayman Legends, Ubisoft delayed the game from February to September--a seven month wait for gamers that are already hungry for new content. Wii U owners were even more frustrated when Ubisoft admitted that the delay was solely to accommodate the just-announced PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
"There are no issues with the game development," Ubisoft PR specialist Sarah Irvin admitted. "The only reason for the delay is to release on multiple platforms."

The Wii U may be launching on November 18 but Nintendo speaks of a wishy-washy "launch window" when talking about games, the 23 launch titles aside. Anything due to arrive before March 31, 2013 is considered a "launch window" game, so it can be hard to know whether you'll be playing a game soon or in a few months. Sadly, we now have confirmation it'll be a bit of a wait for Rayman Legends.

Rayman Origins was critically acclaimed, but its co-op options suffered from a lack of choice. Two nearly identical players made up the third and fourth spots, and nary a female was among them. We think. To be honest it's hard to tell what gender these things are. But Ubisoft is addressing both of those problems in Rayman Legends with a newly revealed character.
