A new trailer for Rage serves two purposes: to show off id Software's upcoming title and to explore the legacy of the famed developer.
The trailer largely focuses on the vision of id Software co-founder John Carmack and the advancements of id Tech 5. So who is excited about Rage? The development team is, that's for sure, calling Rage "the best thing id has ever done." Read more »

You might have to wait a little longer to get your Rage on, as the game's official site now claims the game is coming to stores on October 4, and October 7 in Europe. The game had previously been announced for September 13 in the US, and September 15 in Europe.
You'll have to mark a new date on your calendar, but on the bright side it's only being delayed by a few weeks. Check out our recent Jason Kim interview and the latest trailer (below) if the tragic news has worked up a thirst for more Rage info. Read more »

A new trailer for Id Software's Rage has arrived, featuring the NBA's 2011 Rookie of the Year, Blake Griffin. Yes, it's as odd as it sounds.
Apparently, Griffin really wants to be featured in the Bethesda-published shooter, which is eventually coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
Be sure to check out our interview with producer Jason Kim for more information about the game. Read more »

Another Rage gameplay trailer has been quite literally uploaded to the Internet, giving a condensed five-minute look at a mission from id Software's post-apocalyptic drive-y shooter.
This time, we see the player venturing into a bunker of the Shrouded clan to destroy its bomb caches. The sentry turret and spider bot get a lot of screen time too. While we can all agree that spiders are the worst thing imaginable, that gadget's pretty cute. Read more »

This fall, id Software debuts the next major version of its game engine, id Tech 5, with a brand new IP titled Rage. It boasts a design as ambitious as the technical aspirations of the new engine it showcases. An expansive single-player campaign set in post-apocalyptic wastes, co-op side-quests, and a competitive combat buggy competitive multiplayer mode combine to give the project its massive scope.
After a demo presentation of the combat rally multiplayer mode and hands-on time where I got to play four levels from the campaign and one of the single-player races, I sat down with the game's senior producer, Jason Kim to talk about the decision not to include a competitive shooter mode and how the rest of the design of Rage has evolved. I recently spoke with Jason Kim, senior producer at id Software, currently working on Rage. In relating some of the higher level thinking behind the decision to do a new IP as the big game out of the gate for id tech 5, Kim talked about how the studio has evolved.
Our studio has grown a lot, not just in size but also in design and art process, and even a technology standpoint. John has admitted he can't do everything on his own. There are a lot of smart guys that are required to be able to make a game these days. He can't just lock himself up in a room, come out with an engine, and say okay, make a game with this. As a developer, id Software hasn't released a retail title since Doom 3 hit store shelves in 2004. On September 13, 2011, that all changes with the release of the developer's new intellectual property: Rage.
Today, id Software's parent-company Bethesda Softworks has released a trio of new screenshots for the upcoming title. Other than the fact that these images are most definitely staged, that the resolution isn't on-par with the game's confirmed output, and that some post-processing may have been applied: these screens are outstanding. 2011 is shaping up to be a great year for video games. Here at Shacknews we've pored over the treasure trove of titles coming this year and each picked out a select few games to highlight. Today, it's Jeff's turn to share the games he's especially anticipating.
Batman: Arkham City: Back when Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham Asylum, it didn't take long for perception to shift from "Oh great, another superhero game," to "Best superhero game, ever!!!" And rightfully so, largely due to the game's excellent presentation and core fighting and sleuthing mechanics that managed to make you feel like the Batman himself. Read more »

[Update 8/23 4:10PM] Bethesda has clarified to Shacknews that the Steam page "does not mean anything one way or another regarding Steamworks. Too early to discuss." It just confirms that RAGE will be purchasable through Steam when it is released.
[Original Story] During QuakeCon 2010, a placeholder page for id Software's Rage appeared on Valve's Steam service suggesting that the title will be using Steamworks for DRM, much like publisher Bethesda's other upcoming titles, Fallout: New Vegas and Brink. Read more »
