Hey, remember Prince of Persia? So does Ubisoft. But that doesn't mean you can expect a new game in that franchise any time soon.
Ubisoft Montreal is the team responsible for both the 2008 reboot and the 2010 movie tie-in The Forgotten Sands. However, CEO Yannis Mallat confirmed that the series is currently taking a break. "I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused."

Steam's holiday sale has started up, and is set to last through January 5. Today's initial offerings offer deals on a few games and the entire library of some series. These come alongside Flash Sales, a community vote for the next sale game, and various publisher packs.

Lost, but not forgotten, for 20 years, the source code for the very first Prince of Persia on the Apple II was released today by creator Jordan Mechner. The code was unknowingly discovered by his father on 3.5" floppy disks in a box at the back of a closet, and salvaged with the help of a huge amount of vintage hardware.

[Update: 2:00pm] According to Joystiq, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained "We plan to come with more games for full digital distribution, on XBLA/PSN. Either with current games like Beyond Good & Evil, the first three Splinter Cells, and the Prince of Persia trilogy." No pricing or detail on the Splinter Cell title listed in the presentation slide was noted.

Electronic Arts has announced its launch line-up for the Windows Phone 7 platform, which will initially include four games and support for Xbox Live. That includes achievements, i.e. the real reason to play games on Windows Phone 7. WP7 devices will be available on November 8 in the US (October 21 in Europe and Asia).
A large list of launch games was also released by Microsoft at Gamescom 2010. EA's four titles are Need for Speed Undercover, Tetris, The Sims 3, and Monopoly. More details about all four titles can be found below from Microsoft's press release. Read more »

Not long ago, Ubisoft revealed that a new game called Outland would be appearing at this weeks' Penny Arcade Expo, though provided few other details.
With PAX 2010 beginning tomorrow, IGN has previewed the Housemarque-developed offering, described as "a cross between retro platformers like Prince of Persia or Out of This World and the color-switching of shoot 'em up Ikaruga." Housemarque is also the studio behind PSN's Super Stardust HD and the upcoming twin-stick zombie shooter, Dead Nation. Read more »

Quick Take: One of the most popular PC gaming franchises heads to the console world (again) with some new twists. The upcoming version of The Sims 3 has the classic elements of its PC counterpart with some new additions that deepen the gameplay.
While previous The Sims entries have been watered down in their transition to consoles, this one has a chance to surpass the original. Read more »

Mega-publisher Electronic Arts has issued a breakdown of the games it will display next week at E3 2010, offering new release dates and windows for a few titles in the process.
RISK: Factions, the downloadable Xbox 360-exclusive revamp of the classic board game, will arrive on June 23, 2010.
Meanwhile, EA SPORTS NBA JAM--a Wii exclusive--will hit in October alongside the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the recently renamed NBA ELITE 11. Read more »

Just in time for today's release of the Prince of Persia theatrical film, publisher Ubisoft has revamped Jordan Mechner's original action-adventure and released iPhone, iPod touch and iPad versions through iTunes.
Dubbed "Prince of Persia Retro," the 55.3 MB download is priced at 99¢ and "designed for both iPhone and iPad," meaning that the game will automatically detect which device it's running on and modify its control layout / on-screen graphics accordingly.
