We knew that Portal 2 is going to include Steamworks, but now Valve has detailed those features.
The specific feature set included with the Steamworks will be cross-platform match-making and play, friends lists, chat, and achievements. It will also include Steam Cloud saves, allowing users to start a game on the PlayStation 3 and continue it on another PS3. Read more »

Valve has released a lengthy list of updates to various games today, lending more threads to the rich tapestry that is the Potato Fool's Day alternate reality game (ARG). Though unlisted in Valve's notes, Killing Floor has gotten an update with a Portal-themed level. Tripwire claims the level was "not yet due for release," but invites fans to play it anyway.
Other notables include updates for The Wonderful End of the World, 1.. 2... 3... Kick It, Cogs, Defense Grid, RUSH, The Ball, Bit.Trip Beat, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!, Audiosurf, Amnesia, and Toki Tori. Read more »

With Portal 2's release a few weeks away, Valve opted to pull back the curtain on on the game's single-player experience during a recent preview at PAX East 2011.

Like all great mornings, waking up in the new living quarters at Aperture Laboratories begins with rigorous exercise. Look up, look down, and jump. Mandatory fitness and wellness exercise: passed with flying colors. Apparently fitness isn't as important as they let on at Aperture.

[Update 13:30] Portal 2 won't support the PlayStation Move after all. Chet Faliszek replied to Shacknews, calling it a "lost in translation" error and saying Valve is "not supporting the Move controller." Shacknews regrets the error.

When we learned that the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 would be getting some exclusive Steam features, some Xbox 360 owners may have felt nervous that their version would get the short shrift. Not so, says Valve.
CVG interviewed Valve writer Chet Faliszek, who said the two games would perform exactly the same. "If you bought the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and put them side by side you can see they're identical games," he said. "The actual content is the same too, across all platforms." Read more »

Batman: Arkham City: Back when Rocksteady released Batman: Arkham Asylum, it didn't take long for perception to shift from "Oh great, another superhero game," to "Best superhero game, ever!!!" Unlike its predecessor, Portal 2 will feature user-made levels on all platforms. In an interview with NowGamer, Valve's Chet Faliszek confirmed that PC-made mods will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
"The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there's a bunch of depedencies that require the Windows platform," he said. "But the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you're on I should say, will depend on how we're delivering it." Read more »

After announcing in June 2010 that the PlayStation 3 edition of Portal 2 would support Steamworks, developer Valve today revealed exactly what that will entail--it's jolly nice.
Portal 2 on PS3 will support cross-platform multiplayer and chat with the PC and Mac releases, plus cloud-based saved game storage. As if that weren't exciting enough, you'll also get a free SteamPlay version of the game for PC and Mac. Read more »
