Market research firm has issued its latest monthly retail-only sales report, covering February 27 through April 2--the first since the Nintendo 3DS handheld launched in March. As ever, console manufacturers have come out of the woodwork to support the report with figures and marketing spin.
Nintendo relays that the 3DS sold "just shy of 400,000 units" in the US within its first seven days of sale after launching on March 27. This falls slightly short of the regular Nintendo DS models, which combined sold 460,000 units. Read more »

The latest Pokemon incarnations, Black and White, have broken the previous series sales record, according to Nintendo. The pair sold a combined 1.08 million units on launch day, March 6, marking them the new kings of critter-cockfighting sales.
The previous record of a paltry 780,000 had been set by Diamond and Pearl in 2007. The higher figures for Black and White make sense, given that it doles out all new Pokemon for the main quest instead of recycling existing ones, and the new entries add a handful of new features like triple and rotation battles.

The wheels of progress turn slowly but surely and while Release List might look a bit barebones for now, rest assured that this will have no effect upon the actual games being released next week. We'll be bouncing along merrily, better than ever, as soon as possible. As the saying goes, "there'll always be video games."

Just in case you needed a little more convincing to get Pokemon Black or White, Nintendo has announced in a press release that early purchasers will get a free mythical Victini Pokemon.
If you buy one of the games between March 6 (launch day) and April 10, you'll be able to use a the Nintendo WiFi to catch the rare critter. Nicknamed the Victory Pokemon, Victini is a Fire/Psychic type. It has a Victory Star ability that boosts the accuracy of all Pokemon in a given battle, making it especially useful for the new Triple Battles. Read more »

The Pokemon series has featured online features in the last few iterations, but the upcoming Pokemon Black and White plans to expand on those ideas with a new Web portal. Nintendo announced through a press release that the new Global Link site will "give players the ability to sync their game play from their Nintendo DS systems to PCs via the Internet."

Nintendo's famous Pocket Monsters are finally bringing their eternal struggle of adorableness to North America, with the release of Pokémon Black and Pokémon White on March 6, 2011, the publisher revealed.
The two versions of the Nintendo DS title will feature different locations, creatures, and seasons. Unlike other games in the series, the two versions the latest Pokémon entry will feature different locations. According to Nintendo, Pokémon Black features "a unique metropolitan area called Black City," while Pokémon White will have Poké Trainers explore "a lush, green area named White Forest." Read more »

Staying true to its traditional release schedule, Nintendo of America today announced that Pokemon Black and Pokemon White--the "totally new" Nintendo DS efforts hitting Japan in September 2010--are due to arrive in North America come Spring 2011.
Unlike Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver--released in Japan in September 2009 then North America and Europe in March 2010--Black and White aren't remakes or revamps of any existing Pokemon title, instead packing "a new storyline and the next generation of Pokemon" for the popular role-playing series and its various pocket monsters. Nintendo has revealed the "totally new Pokémon title" it teased in January to be Pokémon Black (DS) and Pokémon White (DS), showing the pair off with the first screenshots.
Described by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata as "the first brand new Pokemon title in 4 years," Pokémon Black and White are scheduled for release in Japan this fall. New Pokémon titles traditionally hit Japan in the fall then the West in the following spring. Read more »
