The first batch of DLC for PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is coming February 12th. The initial add-on will expand the roster by two, and will introduce a brand new stage.
As previously reported, the DLC adds two combatants: Gravity Rush's Kat and Starhawk's Emmett. Kat can bend gravity to allow her to dash, slide, and fly from one place to another. Emmett offers “Build & Battle” gameplay from Starhawk, calling down different structures to aid him in battle.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale makes its bones on mashing up disparate Sony properties and making them fight for your amusement. The Adult Swim show Robot Chicken does much the same thing, only with action figures. So it makes a certain kind of sense that the two crossovers would themselves cross over, resulting in last night's very niche advert.

Then, Andrew talks about his lengthy hands-on with Wii U, and explains how he's warming up to Nintendo's unique GamePad. We throw in some football and some Last Story in there as well, so grab some stuffing and listen to this holiday Weekend Confirmed.

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: PlayStation All-Stars is not Smash Bros. Thanks to the rather unique decision of making KOs achieved exclusively through special attacks, Battle Royale plays quite differently from Nintendo's mascot brawler. Still, comparisons are inevitable because there just aren't too many other first-party developed 2D mash-up fighters out there.
Most importantly, Sony's approach is far more technical than Nintendo's. In fact, the game is more Marvel vs. Capcom than Smash Bros. Each character handles very differently, and requires learning entirely different move sets. A fighting mainstay like Heihachi has 35 different moves at his disposal, discounting combos, but the seemingly accessible Sackboy has 34 moves up his sleeves. Devil May Cry's Dante is one of the most complex characters in the game, with 22 unique combos he can perform.

A little known fact about the PlayStation 3: it can support seven controllers, although we can't think of a single game that's taken advantage of this rather unique feature. When I spoke with Omar Kendall, director of the upcoming PlayStation All-Stars, I asked why his game didn't support more than four players. Given there's no need for split-screen, it seems like a perfect candidate to be PS3's defining seven-player game. He didn't answer my question, but did offer a rather odd tidbit about the game's development.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a curious bird, Sony's own stab at the formula of Nintendo's cross-over punch frenzy Super Smash Bros. series. PlayStationeers will get to try it for themselves from tomorrow, when the multiplayer open beta launches for everyone on Vita and PS Plus members on PS3. It'll open up to everyone else on PS3 next week, on October 23.
