One game that has proudly waved the horror banner in 2013 has been Outlast, from the team at Red Barrels. Outlast sees journalist Miles Upshur investigating a strange asylum, only to find terror unlike any he's ever seen. The game has received praise from both critics and members of our own Shacknews Chatty community. Outlast coming from ex-Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia devs

Former Ubisoft vets who have worked on games including Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Prince of Persia have formed a new indie team: Red Barrels. The developer's first game is a survival horror title set in an asylum in the mountains of Colorado. As a journalist, players are tasked with finding out the truth about the facility.

"Our team has a lot of previous experience creating big, blockbuster games," said co-founder David Chateauneuf. "We're all really excited to see what kind of fear-based emotional rollercoaster we can build on our own!"
